The idea that yang means power, Idea that yang is bad, channeling yang and yang rising

Recommended Posts

Completely non belief based random thoughts.

When yang rises from the dan tien this reults in qualities such as agression, pride, desire for power, trying to change and control things and action...

Yang can manifest in many forms including preaching and trying to display/prove our own beliefs/try to change the world, interesting to notice how one channels this yang.

If Yin and Yang require each other then ideas that Yang is bad are not entirely accurate.

Also the idea that Yang automatically means power is conceptual as yin can be just as if not more powerful.

Yang yin, Yang, Yang

Yang

Maybe if its false yang :)

It's said that the soft leads the strong, so perhaps it's yin one should pursue if they want more power, not yang. Lots of yang is aggression, pride, desire for power only because one lacks them, whereas yin just feels it has them so it doesn't feel the need to bark about it, in fact, it tries to conceal having it, as it tries to avoid getting engaged in conflict unnecessarily. In short, Yin is the mastermind general, while Yang is the foot soldier.

Under an advertising poster proclaiming

Nothing sucks as powerfully as the New Hoover vacuum cleaner

someone had written.....

Pauline does

On topic....

It's all about harmonious balance. Some forms don't suit some people. Mantak Chias sets are superb but too Yang-ey for some people [me for one]. Hence there is a wide choice of forms to try in order to find what suits each individual.

Ah.... the manifestations of dualism... and their trappings... best to steer clear of too much distinction and pronouncement of their meaning. What is Yin to one is Yang to another. You only need to feel what is your way.

I like Flowing Hands, chapter 2, transmission:

CHAPTER 2

All under Heaven can see beauty, because ugliness exists.

One knows good only because there is evil.

These two manifest from the same source

which complement each other.

From the myriad forms, each has a complement:

Difficult and easy complement each other.

Long and short contrast each other.

Voice and sound are in harmony with each other.

Front and back follow one another.

The Sage sees the Ten Thousand Things in harmony,

and goes about his business doing nothing, so the Ten Thousand Things rise and fall without

interference.

Bearing, yet not possessing, working, yet not taking credit, work is done, then forgotten,

therefore it remains eternal.

This bears repeating.

But even deeper, they shouldn't even need complimenting.

Good point MH. All is one 'deeper'.

The underpinnng unity of the Tao.

'As your movements flow, search for the meaning of the Tao;and follow its natural way'

Yin and Yang are the same thing and so they change as the energy compresses and how you look at it

A lot of a good thing is bad and uh... <insert an expression about something good in something bad>

It's kinda dumb(very dumb) to choose one over the other but around the forum yin is being glorified a lot

Easiest way to see the connection is by noticing it itself, like listening to The Shaggs long enough to like them

Worst music ever made but by listening to it long enough and knowing their backgrounds, it becomes something great and unique

Go ahead, listen to their every song, come on, do it

What an unusual name for a musical combo.

Is there a Mr. Shaggs who formed the orchestra or did they perhaps choose the name as one appropriate to that which they intended to do to musicality do you think?

I can't even begin to tell you how disappointed I was especially when I stopped some really good Cajun music in order to listen to that.

Yin and Yang are the same thing ...

To a degree you are absolutely correct. I consider Yin and Yang to be the polarities (as with electricity, negative and positive) of Chi. Without the other the one is meaningless.

(especially about ear flapping, or whatever that one thread was about)

They are the same thing as hot and cold, burn your skin and eventually you will feel cold and vise versa

They are like a spiral that you cut in half, when in action, they will both change places eventually

It seems this thread is about the disempowering idea that power, action, aggression, force, is bad, more than anything else, whether the impetuus for that action coming from an yang or yin excess being irrelevant. Taken to an extreme, this attitude will only lead to being afraid, or being uninclined to take any action of any kind, as it may be perceived as offensive to someone out there. A very scholarly attitude, but impractical in the real world. Now of course, there is right action and wrong action, right action being that which achieves its intended results and wrong action being that which fails. And this is where the real art of cultivation lies, achieving the proper ratio of yang/yin in the body for achieving one's objectives and fulfilling his destiny as efficiently as possible.

The Shaggs are so awful that they are great, it's an acquired taste like mystery cheese and the cheese that came before it

Good points here.

I don't recall ever suggesting that Taoists should be pacifists. However, I do suggest that it is almost always better if no action is required or taken.

Being Yin doesn't mean that you are going to let people walk all over you. It just means that you are at rest and storing reserve energy. Sometimes Yang energy is required in life in order to remain in harmony with our Self and our environment.

No such thing here as Yin=good and Yang=bad. No. No.
