Things to take to a martial arts bout

A few seasonal gift tips for those who may be invited to play martial arts over the festive tide. If invited to contest with a player using one of the following style or weapon, ask Santa to bring you the following resource.

Karate... Powder Puff

Knife fight... Gun

Push hands... Kali Stick

Judo... House Brick

Kendo... Tiger Lance

Pa- Kua... Mobile Phone (to text your apologies for non-attendance at the bout).

Funny. My young friend told me he likes wrestling better than basketball because it is more fun to throw people than it is to throw a ball.

I wrestled Greco-roman Olympic style when I was in the Army. Reason was we had to do a compulsory sport every Wednesday afternoon and with wrestling , it was warm and indoors plus once the bout was over you could pod off and do your own thing whilst the soccer players were still sweating on the muddy pitch in the rain.

A good wrestler will take down most martial arts players apart from weapons or Pa-Kua.

You'll never best a Pa-Kua player by fighting fair.

I love the wrestling coaches. Evidently, it is a sport for short compact guys; I feel like an Amazon princess when I stand up next to them. I don't wrestle; my son does. Did aikido for a few months and that was the most testosterone charged martial arts class ever. I like aikido in theory, but those guys got on my nerves.

lol, sorry someone had to go there.... err [slinks away in shame]...

 

Someone came into our shop at the Renfest wearing a shirt that said "(top)Chuck Norris like his meat so rare (bottom) He only eats unicorns!"

Low centre of gravity. Hence QiGong etc is the ideal cultivation for retired wrestlers as it focuses on sinking and to some extent old wrestlers are 'pre-sunk' so QiGing or TaiChi maybe comes that bit easier to us. I know the first time I ever was shown QiGong that was it, a light came on in my head saying... At last, something actually designed for short stocky guys with most of their weight around their erse. That you would not find with ballet or ballroom.

Yes, I agreed with that sentiment GMP. When I first learned to move from my LDT it made a ton of sense. I had a friend of mine I used to work with try to throw a shoulder into my back once. He got a running start and then he bounced a good 4 feet or so until the wall caught him. It was pretty funny because I didn't even expect or really feel it. Peng FTW. I think the best thing to take to a fight is the willingness to start off vicious. Kick the knees, punch the liver, elbow the kidneys, gouge the eyes, fishhook!

I'm old school as far as MA concerned only took to it after I left the army and began nursing.

Closest dojo to where we lived in London was Pa-Kua so I did that.

It's down and dirty for sure and a young man's game competitively. Then Escrima came to London.

Game over as far as I was concerned.

No matter how big an opponent might be , unarmed; they are nary so big that they won't drop if one simply tw*ts them over the head really hard with a stick several times with a coup de grace delivered to the goolies.

 

QiGong is a way of peace and health.

So lets get this right ... you left the army (where you were supposed to fight) and took up nursing ... so started tw*tting people in the goolies with a stick (presumably while also changing their bed pan).

 

Don't you think you might be living your life back to front like benjamin button.

I supposed looked at that way it does seem a bit surreal but after a straight eight on a psychiatric ward twa**ing someone over the head with a stick feels darn good.
