for some reason i think it'd be a good idea, i'm not sure if i read it anywhere or if it's late night intuition.

Bg. 6.11 - In a clean and pure spot, having established a firm seat for himself, neither too high nor too low,

with cloth, skin and Kusa grass thereon.

Bg. 6-12 - There making the mind one-pointed, with the actions of the mind and the senses controlled, seated

on that seat, (Yogi should) practice Yoga for the purification of the self (mind).

-Bhagavad Gita

It insulates...so you don't lose your warmth into the ground. Good thing to do.

Hi Mantis,

Sheepskin rugs are favored by many of the followers of Yogi Bhajan type Kundalini Yoga over regular yoga mats.

There is an article about this here.

Sam's Club sells them online reasonably here. Pottery Barn, IKEA and other places sell them as well.

Skin yourself and meditate on that

Such an idealist. :)

It's said that the real yogis use deerskin, and only from a deer that died naturally (and then the skin was retrieved quickly before the nasty stuff started happening).

In Kunlun/Yigong they say to meditate on a skin or insulation sheet to stop you earthing the energy, whereas in Mo Pai doing that will prevent you absorbing Yin Qi so it will prevent you making any progress. So I don't know what is best, I guess it depends on your method.

When I started Kunlun I got a small sheep skin rug from Ikea. It still feels good, I keep it under my zafu.
