Expressing oneself creatively, How do you do it?

I would say I am quite creative/have the flow.

 

I am capable of self expression.

 

I would like to paint random psychadelic stuff sometimes, however I lack skills, and developing skills seems so boring for some things.

 

Expressing onself for a certain reason seems so against expressing oneself, like trying to convey a particular meaning or something.

 

I took a drum class the other day and a didgeridoo class.

 

Anyhoo it would be nice to channel my creative energy maybe towards something remotely productive.

 

Just wondering how do you express yourself?

 

Do you abandon all ideas of useful creativity?

I used to write, people have told me I was talented. I also used to draw and make music.

 

During times where I feel particularly down I'll still write a poem or something.

 

My problem is that prior to me embarking on this spiritual path, most of my writings/art/music came from suffering. Now that I don't have so much sadness/grief, I feel as though I can't express myself truly. The art that came from suffering, my joy(of old), has lost it's appeal. I've even tried to create problems for myself, to no avail. I miss the art that came from the sadness.

 

I wrote a lot about society and curing its ills for a time, but only so many people want to hear that kind of thing, let alone act on it.

 

To me music is the best form of expression at the moment, because it is beyond words and as long as your hearing is good you can play something or sing.

 

You said you don't want to really spend time on developing skills, some say most great art comes from a type of suffering.

If you think you possess a degree or two of creative impulse, and would like to learn a useful skill with fair benefits on more than a few levels, you ought to consider taking up cooking classes and see if its your cup of tea. Skilled chefs are always in demand, and even average chefs, willing to work hard (lots of overtime in this profession) can avail of a good income.

 

I have chef friends who work on ships, and they earn between 4 to 7 thousand euros per month. (and thats at junior sous chef level). Chef de partie grades can earn between 3 to 5k, and commis chefs start at around 2k. Thats way more than land-based work anytime. Plus, think of the perks... free travel, free medical, free food and lodging, and hardly have time to spend your dosh. With a bit of patience and perseverance, 3 years is all it takes to become financially sound.

 

You can always bring your didgeridoo along to entertain your new-found mates!

I think it is very therapeutic to write spontaneous poetry/songs like it calm the heart (the real emotional brain)

 

I see yes music has that neutrality

 

Yeh like structure and technique seems very boring to me, I dont know if theres ways of doing things that do not rely so much on stuff like that.

I met a guy who was very clairyovayant who said he enjoyed creative cooking. I do cook for myself, but I am really unsure how creative cooking can be, anyhoo i will research this...cheers

When I write music, it's usually a result of hours of just messing around on the guitar until something "clicks." I find a riff or a melody I really dig, and it sets the emotional-energetic tone of the flow. From there, I focus on the emotion-energy and try to let it grow and express itself...it's very much about feeling into it.

 

Sometimes conscious effort is required to bridge two disparate themes, or to provide a nudge to the flow, but a lot of it "just writes itself."

 

I don't know much music theory, but I know what sounds and feels right for a particular piece.

 

Like I've heard other artists state, it's not so much expressing my self creatively...rather it's trying to manifest a creative expression that already exists.

How does one not express oneself creatively?

 

Sometimes the most beautiful works of art are those that leave no impression on the world- humming a song while walking through the woods, or even just imagining a surreal landscape. Making a connection with a stranger is a creative process.
