manitou Posted March 6, 2013 I have a deceased great aunt that used to take me to Christian Science meetings once in a while on Sundays when I was about 6 or 7 - even at that age I was agog at the stuff they talked about, the power of Mind, etc. I suppose that started me off on my metaphysical odyssey in some fashion. Â I recently bought Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy - I wanted to read it for two reasons; to honor my old Aunt Esther, and also to glean whatever I could from the mind of Ms. Eddy to use in my own quiltwork of practice. I have to say I am somewhat amazed at how closely aligned her thinking is with Daoism, Buddhism, and so many other topics we discuss on this forum. I guess I was expecting the emphasis to be on the "Christian" part of Christian Science; but from what I've read so far, it's anything but. She clearly sees the Nazarene as one of us, just a guy who was able to find the Essence within himself. She is essentialy saying, 'what one man can do, another can do', as to the healing part of this. Â I just wanted to share this one section with you - it is so very metaphysical and wonderful: Â 'Adhesion, cohesion, and attraction are properties of Mind. They belong to divine Principle, and support the equipoise of that thought-force, which launched the earth in its orbit and said to the proud wave, "Thus far and no farther." Â Spirit is the life, substance, and continuity of all things. We tread of forces. Withdraw them, and creation must collapse. Human knowledge calls them forces of matter; but divine Science declares that they belong wholly to divine Mind, are inherent in this Mind, and so restores them to their rightful home and classification.' voidisyinyang Posted March 6, 2013 Yeah that Bruno Groening doc reminded me of Christian Science -- although he was such an amazing mass healer. I read her books and then hung out at one of the centers for an afternoon -- chatting with the volunteer there. No one else showed up -- but it was nice to find a place in the city so peaceful.... Â So I remember hearing about one family that didn't believe in doctors since they were Christian Science -- it's a vague memory -- I didn't know them personally but anyway.... As a child I was taken to all kinds of different healing sessions and called forth to the altar etc. Even if we were energetically forced to pass out (I once was unconscious for about 4 hours), not a single one of us had a lasting positive effect other than some intense euphoria for about 2 hours. I saw so many asthmatics, diabetics, and people whose vision had been restored using inhalers, syringes, and donning their glasses not 30 minutes after. My sister on the other hand received some much needed assistance with a broken arm from some Venezuelan brujas while she was there. I just haven't encountered a legitimate Christian healer.
