Loving Yourself to Attain Enlightenment and Free Yourself from Samsara

Recommended Posts

Only when a Man finally Realizes the Self-Love which that Man has within Himself for His Own Self without the need for any other Human (wife, girlfriend, parents, kids, siblings, friends) to Love Him back then can God within be reached by that Man..

Only when a Woman finally Realizes the Self-Love which that Woman has within Herself for Her Own Self without the need for any other Human (husband, boyfriend, parents, kids, siblings, friends) to Love Her back then can God within be reached by that Woman..

For when God within is reached, Man and Woman will have no more need for each other thus ending Samsara the Cycle of Rebirth and Death..

For it is only by Realizing the Self-Love which One has for Himself without the need to look for Love outside himself then can True Independence and True Freedom from Samsara be attained.

For when you have Self-Love for yourself, what need do you have for spouse, family, kids, money, car, houses?

Why else do you think the Sages and Hermits hide themselves in the mountains? Because they have no need for anyone and anything else.

Why would anyone need anything and anyone else besides God?

I have traveled and lived in many countries, met and talked to people of all cultures and all ages.

What I have discovered about most people is that most people do not love themselves. This is why most people have to seek love and validation from their girlfriends, boyfriends, spouses, parents, family, kids, friends.

It is as if most people feel unworthy if they are not loved by everyone.

This is why shows like X-Factor, Britain got Talent and American Idol are extremely popular with peeps. In Taiwan as well, they have this asian singing contests/television shows which had been running successfully for the better part of the last decade.

Everybody wants to get on these shows. Everybody wants to become a celebrity. Because they only feel loved, they only feel worthy if they are loved by a large number of people. Of course the money is good too for celebrities but I reckon it is the fame more than the money which draws people into the show business.

This is also why no one and nobody dare to speak out against the shitty state of life on earth. No one dare to question why there is such a gap between the rich and the poor, the 1st world and 3rd world countries.

No one dare to question why we are still driving bloody oil-consuming vehicles even though cars running on water have been invented in Japan since 2009.

Also no one dare to question the Alien Invaders when they step out of line. Nobody wants to go against the grain, to go against the System, to go against everyone else because Humans basically want to be loved by everyone else.

Almost no human have the courage to do what's right if it means being an outcast of society, if it means being hated by everyone else. You know, the group-think mentality, the herd mentality doesn't exist only in Japan. It exists everywhere even in the great land of freedom, The "United" States of America.

It is the bloody media, bloody government and bloody schools and universities fault. The media, government, schools and universities have drummed deep into our psyche all of us have to be obedient citizen-slaves of the system. They place pressure on each of us to conform to the system or risk being an outcast and hated by everyone else.

Humans lack the courage to stand up and do what's right because they lack the Self-Love which they have for themselves.

If you Love yourself, you will never be hurt by other's criticisms because You are You and other people are other people. How can anyone else dictate how you should live your life?

You know, when you get into relationships with other people, invariably, other people's energies will influence and corrupt you. Especially when the both of you indulge in the emotional heart connections, the power which have sprung up over the last few years.

The thoughts and energies from the other person will corrupt and pollute you through your heart and your thoughts and energies will corrupt and pollute the other person through his or her heart.

Also think about this. When you love someone, do you love him or her even though he or she don't love you back? Will you love your worst enemy? Will you love a man or woman who has cheated on you and hurt you do deeply that you can cry out because of the pain to your heart?

Jesus said when your enemy slaps you, turn the other cheek and offer your other cheek to be slapped by your worst enemy.

If you love someone because that someone loves you back and gives you pleasure/happiness/whatever, the love which you have for the other person is impure and tainted by greed.

Osho said the person who gives love is the Master and the person who takes love is the Slave. When you love someone else hoping that someone else will love you back and give you pleasure/happiness/whatever, you are actually being a Slave to that other person.

If you truly want to be a Master of your own Self, then you will willingly offer your Love to anyone, especially your worst enemy, without seeking any happiness or pleasure in return. You would willingly Love your worst enemy without the need for your worst enemy to love you back in return.

This would be what the Lord of Compassion, Chezerig and Avalokiteśvara means by having True Unselfish Compassion for only True Unselfish Compassion does not create any further Karmic linkages and connections between you and the other party.

Even if you can't love other people because you are disgusted with their lifestyles, that is ok. At least work on yourself and love yourself.

If you can't even Love yourself, how can you Love other people?

If you think you are not worthy of Love from your own Self, then how can other people Love you?

"Forever Reign"

You are good You are good
When there’s nothing good in me
You are love You are love
On display for all to see
You are light You are light
When the darkness closes in
You are hope You are hope
You have covered all my sin

You are peace You are peace
When my fear is crippling
You are true You are true
Even in my wandering
You are joy You are joy
You’re the reason that I sing
You are life You are life
In You death has lost it’s sting

[Chorus]
Oh I’m running to Your arms
I’m running to Your arms
The riches of Your love
Will always be enough
Nothing compares to Your embrace
Light of the world forever reign

You are more You are more
Than my words will ever say
You are Lord You are Lord
All creation will proclaim
You are here You are here
In Your presence I’m made whole
You are God You are God
Of all else I’m letting go

[Repeat Chorus]

My heart will sing
No other Name
Jesus
Jesus

Yuanshi Tianzun (Chinese: 元始天尊; pinyin: Yúanshǐ Tīanzūn), the Celestial Venerable of the Primordial Beginning or the Primeval Lord of Heaven, is one of the highest deities of religious Taoism. He is one of the Three Pure Ones (Chinese: 三清; pinyin: Sānqīng), and is also known as the Jade Pure One (Chinese: 玉清; pinyin: Yùqīng). He resides in the Heaven of Jade Purity. It is believed that he came into being at the beginning of the universe as a result of the merging of pure breaths. He then created Heaven and Earth.

Yuanshi Tianzun is said to be without beginning and the most supreme of all beings. He is in fact, a representation of the principle of all being. From him all things arose. He is eternal, limitless, and without form.

How do you develop Love which is Pure?

How do you think Buddha and Jesus and other Enlightened Masters develop Compassion for everyone?

Do you think the Buddha and Jesus and other Enlightened Masters expect everyone in the World to Love them because they have achieved Enlightenment?

Me thinks the Enlightened Masters have Love even for their worst enemy.

For their Love is without Greed, without Lust and without Desire for Pleasure, Joy and Happiness.

Their Love is Pure.

I don't completely agree with this incarnation, but I don't completely disagree either. Perhaps people can evolve.

Can't agree with this, never have.

I can't feel love for child murderers and paedophiles, torturers, sadistic killers etc etc.

If you truly want to be a Master of your own Self, then you will willingly offer your Love to anyone, especially your worst enemy,

I take it that mountain retreat is not going all so well

Do Taoists talk about love in the Christian sense? Maybe compassion and to see the inner true essence.

i love my boyfriend because we both know that nothing really matters, especially not having friends. We just kinda gravitated towards each other.

in one way i agree with you, person who keeps coming back with different screen names, but in another way i couldn't disagree more.

Why do you need this forum? You clearly do or else you wouldn't be here. Seek out the happiness and self love you speak of before you tell people to do it themselves. Be our shining example of perfection.

Relax and watch the ‘I Am’. Reality is just behind it. Keep quiet. Keep silent. It will emerge. It will take you in.

You need not chase the ‘I Am’ to kill it. You cannot.

All you need is a sincere longing for reality, atma-bhakti, the love of the Supreme, or moksha-sankalpa, the determination to be free from the false.

Without love, and will inspired by love, nothing can be done.

Merely talking about Reality without doing anything about it, is self-defeating.

There must be love in the relation between the person who says ‘I Am’ and the observer of the ‘I Am’.

As long as the observer, the inner self, the ‘higher’ self, considers himself apart from the observed, the ‘lower’ self, despises it and condemns it, the situation is hopeless.

It is only when the observer (vyakta) accepts the person (vyakti) as a projection or manifestation of himself, and so to say, takes the self into the Self, the duality of ‘I’ and ‘this’ goes, and in the identity of the outer and the inner the Supreme Reality manifests itself.

This union of the seer and the seen happens when the seer becomes conscious of himself as the seer; he is not merely interested in the seen, which he is anyhow, but also interested in being interested, giving attention to attention, aware of being aware. Affectionate awareness is the crucial factor that brings Reality into focus.

I've recently added 28 mins of metta bhavana into my practice. It's a great practice which dissolves ill-will into simply wonderful expansive compassion.

And of course, you can't love all other beings while hating yourself. Some of us, however, have a lack of metta for ourselves, but are somehow simultaneously quite self-centered. Weird!

The risk in learning to love ourselves unconditionally, is not also cultivating unconditional love for others. Some people focus too much on one of these, becoming either douchebags or fluffy twerps. And of course, there are lovely people out there with no wisdom.

Good quote.

Do you know what happens after the "Supreme Reality manifests itself"? i.e. what's the next goal of meditation?

I'd suggest picking one screen-name and sticking with it (loving it?) a while:-)

It's a good idea to love one-self.

Yet, it's tremendously difficult to translate a "mental affirmation" or some sort of self-conviction into a real genuine emotional feeling.

At least, in my experience

Any suggestions?

...

It goes other way as well -- I personally know hermits who have a very strong need for hiding in the mountain retreat , as well as few who developed some form of neurosis and inability to function well in soceity becouse of ' the energies present in urban areas that rob them of their wellbeing ' .

Loving ourself is fundamental though.

It's much easier to develop metta taking a integrated approach, with shamatha and wisdom. Besides, while a Buddha must have metta, metta on its' own tends to be a feature of fools. Do all 3 and you won't go astray, and the effects of each one on the mind supports the others.

Metta bhavana should become more genuinely emotional with time. IMHO, it works because of neuroplasticity. Wish yourself happiness, and you must feel a little good will towards yourself. The more you bring that feeling up, the stronger those pathways in the mind will get. Similarly, in the practice you will slowly feel more genuine metta for each person/group you practice on. You're taking the metta already there - even if it's negligible - and watering it with attention.

In chan practice it is traditional for a person who has recently experienced satori to go into a hermatige in the mountains for a period of time. This is so that they do not become unstable and lose focus by mixing with the world.

The chan tradition makes a distinction between self enlightening beings and true Buddhas.

After the great love is experienced within the self it must be aroused for all beings equally. The oneness of all beings in the great love must be recognized and honored.

After the hermitage the adept will seek liberation in life. They may leave the monestary and mix with society. Loving all beings attached to none. There are even stories of layman chan practicioners with families all practicing together. The external circumstances are only provisional for cultivating the real.

"True love is unattached"

-chan proverb

Self love is good. Its the necessary starting point, but imo it needs to expand. Beginning as sympathy, empathy and understanding moving into acceptance..liking..love. We are more the same then we realize.

You can't stop with self love..keeping going.

if someone slaps you, ideally, don't ever let them see either one of your cheeks again. If that's not an option....cut their hand off. out of love of course.

I just discovered metta meditation, which I think was called loving-kindness when I read about it. I have been doing it regularly, and it feels really good.

I think developing compassion for "evil" is an important step in the evolution of our society. We are collectively responsible for the wellbeing of eachother, and the sickness that pervades our culture. I believe in punishment, and that love can be a driving force behind justice. Yes, I love the people who have done terrible things. A lot of the time it is a lack of genuine love that put them on that path to begin with. Society needs to start taking care of itself, we need to love the strangers and neighbors around us, before everyone becomes an enemy.
