To hear the language dialects spoken - with English interpreters - I suggest to buy a copy of the Collins Linguistic: both Cantonese =(Guang Do Wa)(40% of China - mainly southern speak it) and Mandarin (60% speak Mandarin = (Mandarin is Putongwa in China )

NOTE:
The Chinese gov't has recently given the requirement that all of China must speak Putong Wa - so it seems that Cantonese will soon be becoming a dead language.

Not a chance, Cantonese will never die....??? There are lots on Cantonese songs which the Putongwa speakers are eager to sing but with an mandarin accent.

So Jason have you seen the documentary on Yan Xin - "Yan Xin Superman" -- made by the Chinese government? The Chinese community at the University translated it for us non-speakers -- yeah anyway so when Yan Xin did his mass chi-emitting healing seven hour lectures he would go places where the people did not understand his dialect. It did not matter because the energy of his words still worked to heal people! haha.

What has got this thread to do with Taoism? Why didn't you open it in the off-topic section? You are just cluttering this section with emotional junk.

 

Post #2 is a good advice for having the Tao Te Ching Classic to be Translated properly. Thus it can clear lots of notions about Taoism. IMMHO.

Di Zi Gui is a very good piece of education that children should learn. Adults even spend their time learning it as well.

I used to teach it in my cultural center in NY. Planning on discussing it with my students in China as well.
