Tai Chi 13 postures question?

Depends on how you interprete "the 13 postures". If they are interpretated as five ways to move (footwork) and eight ways to manifest/manipulate qi, then you need a form to practice these things in.

But yes, doing it like Hsing-I would be easier to learn.

Then "form" would be individual movements, not a sequence.

The term used is still form.

Sorry, but we were talking about two different things here, and I agree with your point.

I'm very interested in the 5 footworks and 8 ways to manipulate Qi. Could anyone provide more informations please? Thanks.

Do the 8 forms (ward off, roll back, press, push, split, roll pull, elbow and shoulder) and 5 steps. Check out Master Waysun Liao's videos from here --

https://taichitaocenter.com/sunshop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=74 (this covers the 8 energies/forms)

This one has the 5 style steps --

You can practice each form separately and the 5 style steps separately...

8 forms 6 essential components is a beautiful DVD.

I have a question. In Zhen Man Qing 37 Taji, is the first set the 13 postures?

thanks

FYI The 13 postures are the basic movements which included in all the Tai Ji Chuan. These postures are repeated many times during the Tai Ji practice. It doesn't matter in what set. Another words, the 13 postures were classified as a set of fundamental moves to form the whole Tai Ji Style.

  • 太極十三勢:

退

  • 四正:掤、履、擠、按。
  • 四隅:採、挒、肘、靠。
  • 五行:進、退、顧、盼、定。

These 13 postures were arranged in respect to the positions of the ba gua(八卦).

  • 四正:掤、履、擠、按。 are based in the four main directions such as east, south, west and north.

  • 四隅:採、挒、肘、靠。 Are the four positions in respect to the four corner positions of the ba gua.

五行:進、退、顧、盼、定。 are based on the five elements(五行, wu xing) .

That man has such harmony and balance in his essence I would believe it if someone told me that he doesn't even think about what he does, he just does it, naturally.
