Yoda Posted March 21, 2007 I just read a very cool neurogenesis article in this week's Newsweek about growing the brain through cardio type exercise. Very impressive and recommended article and educators are talking about extending PE to improve grades now that this research is out. Apparently cardio exercise has profound, long term effects on young brains. It has profound effects on mature brains, but not as long term and mostly focused in the hippocampus. Stretching and strength training doesn't deliver brain growth that cardio does. Â As time goes on, it'll be interesting to compare the degree of neurogenesis created by exercise vs meditation vs calorie restriction. Â Not as flashy, but here's a general article on the subject: Â http://www.lef.org/magazine/mag2002/jun200...ort_age_01.html (it's two pages.)
