skydog Posted September 11, 2013 Yeh, that is one of those mainpulative guru techniques to lull people into a state of hypnosis.  Like whenever someone makes a comment.  Quote them this passage  or tell them they dont exist, so why are they getting annoyed.  I dont need fancy marketing, or to listen to very well written words of eloquent grammar, some people believe that is the only credibility and I feel sorry for them.  Luckily enough I rely on my intuition lol.
Dagon Posted September 11, 2013 Tosui was a well-known Zen teacher of his time. He had lived in several temples and taught in various provinces. The last temple he visited accumulated so many adherents that Tosui told them he was going to quit the lecture business entirely. He advised them to disperse and to go wherever they desired. After that no one could find any trace of him. Three years later one of his disciples discovered him living with some beggars under a bridge in Kyoto. He at one implored Tosui to teach him. "If you can do as I do for even a couple of days, I might," Tosui replied. So the former disciple dressed as a beggar and spent a day with Tosui. The following day one of the beggars died. Tosui and his pupil carried the body off at midnight and buried it on a mountainside. After that they returned to their shelter under the bridge. Tosui slept soundly the remainder of the night, but the disciple could not sleep. When morning came Tosui said: "We do not have to beg food today. Our dead friend has left some over there." But the disciple was unable to eat a single bite of it. "I have said you could not do as I," concluded Tosui. "Get out of here and do not bother me again." http://www.101zenstories.com/index.php?story=43

zerostao Posted September 11, 2013 aahhh~ another Ooops!! they're baaaack!!  They all muss be in North America …or bored out of their wits. i look at a deci thread much like i look at a jackson pollock painting. a truly resourceful person is never ever bored, but i digress. pollock is from north america, digress,,,,,  it isnt about pollock or about deci, with pollock it isnt pollock it is the painting itself pollock entered into the painting it had/has no beginning or end, it just is and it is what it is and it isnt what it isnt pollock doesnt/didnt want you to admire or analyize the painting,,he wanted you to enter into it and experience for yourself--only then can you realize what went on within that painting for many it can be very challenging to appreciate or even approach a pollock painting it cannot be approached intellectually

Dagon Posted September 11, 2013 (edited) Actually she has a point. Some sutras are provisional teachings. They are not the Absolute Dharma. In the Shurangama Sutra, Ananda brings up old sayings of the Buddha and Shakyamuni Buddha tells him that those were provisional teachings for the small vehicle so that would go from the small to the large. He even admits that those teachings are not true. Â Hi malikshreds, Â She has no point, how could she have a point if there isn't anyone to have a point? Â (P.S. the same goes both way so check yourself) Â Who would be having the point? hmm? Â If you think deci belle has a point, or even that there is a point to be had, then you missed the point entirely. Â Â That's why this is so amusing. zerostao Posted September 11, 2013 a pollock painting's reality lies not in any reference to the phenomenal world. he dissolved the customary compositional focus on a central object/image and thus, broke down the illusion of objects. he developed an 'all over' composition. he was able to express rather than excavate and he translated an act of painting into an adventure of self-realization. to do this you do not look at the painting from the outside looking in, you must enter it to move around in it and mingle with its very life. there you will understand the energy involved you have to go literally in the painting. so, there is no pre-conceived image, does any of this make sense? if so, then you should be able to follow what deci belle is sharing. it is an ancient rivalry between rational thought and the irrational man vs. nature when hoffman told pollock that pollock;s work was against nature, pollock replied "i am nature" Â pollock was not joking or playing with words or paint
