coconut oil: anti-viral, anti-bacterial kills herpes virus

Recommended Posts

disclaimer: I don't have HSV but I figure if anyone out there does.... great discovery here:

Organic extra virgin. ... coconut oil -- 40 to 50% ratio of the lauric acid and about 10% capric acid which creates:

a greater than 100,000 fold reduction in the virus (HSV type 1) titer in 1 minute at a concentration of 20 mM, is the result of a study featured in October 1999 in “Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences”

Mary G. Enig, Ph.D., mentioned herpes as one of the viruses that monolaurin offers protection against at a symposium in which she spoke in 1996.

Dr. Mary T. Newport, M.D., states that “the lauric acid (C:12) and capric acid (C:10) found in coconut oil kill herpes family of viruses by dissolving the lipid capsule around the virus.

Research showing anti viral qualities of capric acid and lauric acid

Monocaprin, one of the monoglycerides of capric acid and lauric acid, were found to be the most active of all the lipids tested, causing a greater than 100,000 fold reduction in the virus (HSV type 1) titer in 1 minute at a concentration of 20 mM, is the result of a study featured in October 1999 in “Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences”, and conducted by a team of researchers from the University of Iceland, Reykjavik

A study published in 2010 in Skin pharmacology and physiology looked at the “effect of topical application of virgin coconut oil on skin components and antioxidant status during dermal wound healing in young rats.” They found that Virgin Coconut Oil-treated wounds healed much faster, as indicated by a decreased time of complete epithelization and higher levels of various skin components.8

A study done in 2009 in the Journal of investigative dermatology found that the lauric acid found in coconut oil had the potential to be more effective antibiotics in treating acne vulgaris.9

Coconut oil is one of the best things ever. I have talked about it here before. I use it literally everyday. For cooking, on my skin, in my hair, in my mouth, ect. I would highly suggest everyone start using it, best Medium Chain Triglyceride ever! Like this image states, get at least expellar pressed preferably cold pressed, organic, virgin (extra-virgin not necessary), oil that has not been refined.
