There is not really a guide per se, but I'm happy to help.

You can search forum and tech support or make a new thread there and I will answer your questions or you can message me for help.

I'll look through tech support and find out how to search first.  If I don't get a feel for the flow after a day or two I'll post a question.

Kar3n is a unique spelling.  What does it mean?

Well, my name is Karen and that spelling was already in use as an avatar on TDB, so I chose a 3 as a substitute for the e.

Three has a significance in many systems of practice and religons. It is a worthy and interesting google search.

Bingo! I have guessed it correctly.

Kar3n - thus far I have met quite a number of nice people at TDB.

You are one of them.

Keep on being so.

Yellow your favourite colour?

YES! :D

Hi Lost in Translation,

The following pertains to some Taoist symbolism on colours (www.webpages.uidaho.edu/~rfrey/PDF/116/116TaoColor.pdf)

COLOR: NATURE / ELEMENT / CONSIDERATIONS:

RED: Yang / Fire / Auspicious symbol, associated with passion, warmth, life, good fortune, wards off evil, worn by brides.

YELLOW: Yang / Earth / Symbol for royalty, authority.

GREEN/BLUE: Yin / Wood / Symbol of love, youth, growth, longevity, harmony; "blue" = sky, same word denotes heavenly blessings.

WHITE: Yang / Metal / Represents death, mourning, sorrow, grief.

BLACK: Yin / Water / Symbolizes darkness; remarkably unpopular.

I guess there are no other Rickies around here then.  FYI  Rickie is what I was called as a child.  I use it now as it represents a youthful, innocent and impressionable stage of my life.

Hi Rickie,

Out of respect I addressed Marblehead - Dada (as in Daddy-boy).

Now it is - Dada-da.

Good day. Have to run off now. It is 8:30 am in Singapore.

Hi Dada-da,

I do not know your ethnicity. But I am a third generation overseas Chinese and I was/am brought up to respect my elders.

Wisdom comes age and you have ... thus my respect from Dada to Dada-da.

Respect - yes.  Believe everything they say - no.  (I do BS a lot.)

I do try to not put members into baskets.  Even if you were a member of the Red Guard I would still talk with you.

Hi Dada-da,

I also do BS a lot. Like you - good naturedly to the best of my 'good' nature.

This is noted at 'Welcome'.

The Red Guards did not kill Taoism during the Cultural Revolution in China?

Is Taoism passed down from the 'old' to the 'young' over generations?

The same mode of transfer both in the East and West?

Same respect for 'old age' both in the East and West?

In the Internet age is the East merging into the West, and vice versa?

No, they did not.  Could not.  They did hurt a lot of Buddhists though.  As well as the more educated of the society.  They tried to erase history but they just couldn't do it.

Yes, in a large part it is passed down from individual to individual.  Impossible to stop that if done in privacy.

And yes, now with the internet it will become even harder to re-write history.

Hi Dada-da,

'Old age' seems to be more 'real' when an individual reaches a certain age. It may vary from individual to individual.

Some realisation/respect for 'old age' may be associated with delicate and penetrating stories.

This is one such story - a songwriter's (34 years old) realisation that his mother (70+) is getting old and he wrote this song for a songwriting competition:  当你老了 (When you are old)

It is translated thus -

When you are old

When you are old and gray hair.
And full of sleep.

When you are old and unable to walk .
And nodding by the fire, recall your youth.

How many loved your moments of glad grace.
And loved your beauty with love false or true.
But one man loved your pilgrim soul in you.
And loved the sorrows of your changing face.

When I'm old and eyebrows lowered.
When I'm old and eyebrows lowered.
The hazy light shining fast.

The Winds blow across,Send your message.
This is a song in my heart.

When I am old,I really hope.
Here is a song, sing for you.

The song was delivered during a competition thus -

At that point in time, his mother had not yet hear the song.

It has since been recorded by many artistes e.g.:

To me 'old age' is special from a very young age - thus this post.

Yeah, old age is full of memories.  People, places and things.

At least we old people have had the opportunities to live a full life.

Good morning Dada-da,

"Old age" not old age. Why?

"Old age" = experiential knowledge on different "people, places and things"; everyone very different.

"Old" people not old people. Why?

"Old" people give back to life fully.
