tea

Recommended Posts

So I've been reading Tea Here Now (thanks, sunshine!) and contemplating the drinking of tea as a spiritual practice. Meanwhile, I've been using this amazing tea thingy I got. It is made by Adagio, and it is called IngenuiTea. You put your tea and hot water in this plastic (polycarbonate) container and let it steep. Then when you are done, you put your container underneath the container and it all falls through somehow. Anyway, I decided to do an experiment, to taste test both teas and see which one is yummier. IngenuiTea won! What does it say about my spirituality that I prefer some kind of newfangled plastic thingy? The centrifugal force and built-in filter somehow makes a much stronger (but not bitter) cuppa tea. I am ashamed.

I guess the only bad thing is that it is made of polybycarbonate, which I think might be toxic.

If you're into Chai tea. Drop by the Paisley Violin on your next trip to Phoenix. They have a hand blended version that is dynamite. Just smelling the leaves and spices gives me a natural, euhphoric sensation (maybe there is something to aromatherapy). They have many other varieties also. I'm a tea heretic, use the microwave to heat the water.

Thanks for the microwave secret. Now I feel less guilty. Stop by Seven Cups next time you are in Tucson, it is exquisite. I have a tea party there once a year. I hear there is Japanese tea ceremony in Phoenix however.

Cameron, I am still drinking that amazing jade pearl tea you got me forever ago. I save it for special occasions. It is soooo good.

Yeah, I bought the same tea for Lezlie and Sean last time I saw them..I think Lezlie likes it also. I mostly drink Lung Ching Dragonwell and a strawberry cream green tea but like Jasmine Phoenix Pearls once in awhile.

I guess I am old school. I use a tea cup with a built in filter.

The smaller leaves often fall through the cracks, but it's all part of the experience as far as I am concerned.

Favorite teas:

Fujian Silver Needle

Imperial Ti Kwan Yin

Pu-erh Toucha

I also highly recommend cutting up some fresh ginger and steeping it with some Oolong leaves.

Long Jing Cha.. what a great tea! I was in Hangzhou a few years ago and stopped by Long Jing Shan. Beautiful green everywhere..and found a quiet walkway up the mountain off the usual path to a great meeting of a solid celestial stone shaped Dragon...which was so subtley formed that people just had newpapers and human waste all over it. What disrespect for such beings.

Anywho... Many stories I do have.. but the tea, nonetheless, is one of those I choose mostly.

Peace and Happiness,

Aiwei

Yes, I meant jasmine, not jade. You got me some other kind too but it is gone now.

I used to make tea by just infusing in a jar. I didn't mind little tea leaves floating around.

Also I really like a wooden infuser I found. The leaves have space to unfurl/move around, unlike the metal tea balls.

I always make my tea in a pot - whch means I drink a lot! (and my pee ends up smelling like tea B) )

My dad has been bringing me some green tea from kazakstan - probably not famous for its tea, but the leaves are a really nice colour and smell, and the tea is strong!

Ooh and chamomile in the evening - really nice too

I love green and black teas, but after traveling to Argentina a few years ago, I discovered a type of herbal tea called Yerba Mate. It is very good, and apparently has many health benefits. In Argentina and Brazil they drink it several times daily, and this has been connected to the overall good health of the population there. I recommend it to all of you, and if you don't happen to have a chance to visit Argentina I am sure you can buy it online.

This website goes more in-depth about it: http://noborders.net/mate/health.html

Yup my dad brought some back from Argentina - we've even got the traditional gourds and silver straws - the Argentinians take their Mate very seriously. It does have some kind of effect on me - gives a calm sense of energy, similar to coca tea...

My choices:

- Ti Kuan Yin.

- Tulsi (3 types in one) from 'organic India'

I like these teas with or without some fresh ginger.

Good to see people using microwaves so I'll share this.

I've never been a hot drink person, I don't even really like soup or really hot food I'll have an espresso if I really need the caffeine hit but that's about it. But I've been playing with the warrior diet which recommends tea.

So I have some green tea teabags and 2 styrofoam cups.

The tea bag goes in one cup, 1/2 fill with hot water and empty (I don't like the first infusion taste like grass (lawn, not the good one))

1/2 fill again, take out the teabag squeeze it over the sink and put it in the 2nd cup The second cup then goes on the bottom or the first cup, to keep the teabag for the next round of tea.

Fill the cup with tea up with water (because it takes 30 min for a styrofoam cup full of boiling water to get to a temperature cool enough for me to actually drink it.) So that the tea is at a nice tasty temperature.

So that's my Tea ceremony :D

I like http://www.enjoyingtea.com/taophfite.html but errr how do they work? Drink the tea and it keeps the leaves in the bottom of the cup? Doesn't it get stronger as the water sits in the cup or can you just fill it up with hot water again... err like drinking out of the teapot........... I had some green tea that comes in those "pearls" (the little balls that unroll into leaves) but I never knew how to brew it properly without a kettle so perhaps a cup like this would be good........... this tea stuff confuses me  funny enough I've found it hard to search for too

p.s. The tea cup I actually want for work :ohttp://www.cafepress.com/norml.144884130

 I wouldnt consider myself any sort of tea snob, but microwaves piss me off and I use them as little as possible...mainly for thawing stuff. I absolutely cant stand making tea with microwaved water....having random molecules be hot a hell and others lukewarm is annoying, not to mention it seems like there is more air in microwaved water so when you pop a bag in there I see bubbles and shit. cant be having that

I'm a fan of my water cooler...push the hot button and I get hot water, plenty suitable for tea or coffee. now that's luxurious living to me haha...

Mal, that is a nice tea cup! I usually drink my dragon pearl oolong with all that stuff just floating and I just....avoid the remnants when I sip

I do the microwave thing at home because time is always an issue. Although I use filtered water and put the tea bag in the cup. The bubble issue with the water could be from unfiltered water. I noticed a definite difference in the look and taste after getting a reverse osmosis filter installed. At work we have bottled water with a hot tap.

Someone mentioned tulsi tea a while back. I really like tulsi. Very soothing, but not annoyingly so like chamomile. It's tough and soothing at the same time. Like Zen. :D

I couldn't resist the Bamboo Forest Yixing Clay Mug with Infuser from http://www.enjoyingtea.com

then I had to get some tea too

Dragon Well Green Tea,

Pingshui Gunpowder Green Tea

Anxi Benshan Wulong

So $100aus later and I'm still sipping my teabag tea from my styrofoam cup  A teleport would really revolutionise online shopping

Reviving a tea thread, because every once in a while you have a tea that you just need to tell someone else about.

numi-80650.jpg

It's not the greatest tea in the world, but I got this for a gift and was surprised that it was actually pretty good!
