An ecological disaster, no doubt, but we had Bums literally moving to Canada to escape the impending doom and others proclaiming the Earth was going to split open and the seas would boil and... Â Turned out that the planet didn't crack into pieces, life on Earth wasn't snuffed out. In fact, among other factors, naturally occurring oil-eating bacteria had a kick-ass picnic.
