For those who are a little lazy about coin or yarrow stalk methods this site is one of the better I Ching consultation sites.

Nice site with its own forum and blog - concentrates on divination use of I Ching.

http://www.biroco.com/yijing/links.htm

If you are interested in scholarly 'modernist' approach this is a good site with book reviews and links.

http://grichter.sites.truman.edu/home/

Site containing a free pdf download of a translation of root text.

http://www.amazon.com/The-Ching-Biography-Lives-Religious/dp/0691145091/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1396190696&sr=8-1&keywords=I+ching+a+biography

an excellent history of the I Ching from an academic.

http://www.amazon.com/The-Original-Ching-Authentic-Translation/dp/0804841810/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1396190781&sr=8-1&keywords=I+ching+original+pearson

an attempted reconstruction of original root text (not completely convinced about this but interesting).

http://www.amazon.com/I-Ching-Classics-Ancient-China/dp/0345362438/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1396190858&sr=8-1&keywords=I+ching+shaughnessy

translation of the MWD text (different order of hexagrams and some names).

The groundbreaking thesis THE ORIGINAL "YIJING": A TEXT, PHONETIC TRANSCRIPTION, TRANSLATION, AND INDEXES, WITH SAMPLE GLOSSES (I CHING, CHINA)

by Kunst, Richard Alan, which in 1985 opened up the modernist approach to YiJing studies. available form here

I cut some yarrow stalks a couple of summers ago, any recommended links for using those? :) Including preparation if I'm so lucky...

Alex Chiu says that times must be converted to Beijing time.

is this for his predictions or predictions coming from Beijing, or is this a universal thing we need to do?

the pinky rings for physical immortality , anyone tried those? Eternal Life Device

gorgeouspil and chi flush products as well.

this may be a forum to check out and see what folks are saying.

I found this quote interesting

"Only Alex Chiu has the solution to a unified world, unless you can think of a better one..."

This is from the online clarity site I quoted above:

http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/learn/consult/yarrow.php

...and most translations like Wilhelm and so on give instructions.

I use kebab skewers with the points cut off and have used drinking straws cos I can't get milfoil/yarrow.

Nothing wrong with coins by the way but using sticks is much slower and contemplative ...

I can also send some in the summer if anyone who is not overseas needs some :). (I've heard the shipping costs where Soaring Crane lives :D)

How fortuitous... I've recently been feeling a tug to do just this... perhaps I'll take one of you up on that...

I'm on the west coast too. Though you would have to remind me about June or July... (and pay shipping or have some trades)

I'm sure we've done this before but it would be nice to know which translations of the I Ching (YiJing) people use:

I use mainly:

1 ) the Richter translation I linked to above (its free :))

2 ) Wilhelm (of course)

3 ) Alfred Huang The Complete I Ching (its good on the Hex names ... but have to watch his trans. occasionally)

4) Richard John Lynn's The Classic of Changes (Wang Bi commentary which is good for the commentaries)

and occasionally

5) Stephen Karcher Total I Ching ... shamanistic interpretation ...

If I'm doing a 'serious' consultation I use Richter to start with and then fill in the gaps with the others.

I use the Wang Bi approach that the text leads to the image(s) and the images lead to the 'idea' (or meaning and principle 'li') ... so basically you read the text - judgement and images and so on to get a sense of the images arising ... then once you have the images you forget the text ... then you use the images to lead you to the key ideas being expressed .... once you get that you forget the images ... then apply the key ideas to the situation in your question.

RJ Lynn and this, which I've linked to a number of times in these forums:

My favorite

I hope someone else will get it and comment on it someday. I inspired to buy it after reading the Fang Shui book from the same authors (that book is also top-notch).

For system, I began using a Pendulum to build the hexagrams a while ago and have a better feeling with the results.

haha, it's the postage from where you are to where I am that is so exorbitant. Shipping from here to there is still pretty reasonable ;)

Excused ... but what's that got to do with the I Ching was there some mention of it?

Because Sun Tzu drew heavily on the I Ching.

Edit to add: as well as the TTC.

Thank you for the links; What a beautiful tradition, I was unaware of the relevance to yin and yang in the series generation of the I-Ching.

Similar in some ways to the generation of prashna (question) charts in vedic astrology, though much simpler, divine.

Are there any similarity's between I-Ching and the formulation of Chinese astrology?

One of my favourite translations is the Takashima Ekidan. It's a Japanese translation by Kaemon Takashima, translated into English by Shigetake Sugiura. The full book has example readings for most of the hexagrams so you can get a good idea on how various Yijing symbolism can be used in readings.

Here’s a link to the full book-

http://google.com.au/books?id=agkvAAAAYAAJ&redir_esc=y

and here’s a link to an abridged copy that contains just the judgements and lines-

http://www.russellcottrell.com/VirtualYarrowStalks/TakashimaEkidanA5.pdf

I also use Cary Bayne’s Richard Wilhelm translation, James Legge’s and Richard Lynn’s. All of them give a slightly different perspective.

There’s also a supposedly Taoist Yijing by Wu-Weifarer. It’s an easy to read version. Here’s a link-

I don’t know anything about him, but he has a Yahoo group you can join (but it seems to be dead now…)-

https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Daily_Yijing/info

and a Daoist information link site-
