Silent Answers Posted April 29, 2014 Should the Dao be spoken? At which point does knowledge meet wisdom? True wisdom only flows when all knowledge is cast out To speak of the Dao is in itself a distraction from accomplishment Those who seek to teach remain fixed in the classroom The Dao, like light, contains a spectrum But the spectrum is not the Dao The Dao is the master of the laws it creates Untouchable through its infinite choice To know the Dao, many questions arise Continuous cycles of learning and relearning We seek others out in a quest for understanding Yet, the final answer never comes and cannot be taught with words The Dao in it's purest form requires no thought It's many levels triumphed in silence Once you know this, you need ask no more As a student of your own

GrandmasterP Posted April 29, 2014 (edited) An aspiring Taoist asked to enter a temple and attach himself to a priest for training. "Very well," said the Priest , "but all students here observe the vow of silence. You will be allowed to speak only once in every twelve years. After the first twelve years, the student said, "The bed is too hard." After another twelve years, he said, "The food sucks." Twelve more years later, after thirty-six years of hard work and meditation, he said, "I quit." "Good," said the Priest, "all you have been doing is complain." Rara Posted April 30, 2014 The priest and the nun... The nun asks the priest "Please, tell me about truth." The priest points outside to the moon. "There is the truth, but my finger is only the words. The finger cannot also be the truth"
Seth Ananda Posted April 30, 2014 Well it sure makes it easy to look {sound?} wise when you say nothing... you mean if I say nothing, then I am 'obviously' the one who 'knows' and does not speak, lol. I think from now on I am going to crash conversations with my silence, and when people get annoyed, I will sagely tell them how I am wise by keeping my mouth shut, and implicitly imply that they are not, by speaking... I will sleep so well at night knowing how much better I am than others
GrandmasterP Posted April 30, 2014 "There was no point (sitting silently) freezing your nadgers off on top of some mountain while communing with the Infinite unless you could rely on a lot of impressionable young women to come along occasionally and say ‘Gosh’." (Terry Pratchett: Maskerade).

You won't be bothered by "friends" because you won't have any.

Marblehead Posted April 30, 2014 I should have known! Hehehe. Belly laughs. But then, one never knows for sure where I am coming from; most times I don't even know either until after the fact.

dawei Posted April 30, 2014 I would say that Dao is the noisy nothingness which there could be. All my senses are quite aware of its 'let the good time roll' nature. So, I guess this is a way of saying that while we can speak about it, it seems to speak louder than words.
