Ron Goninan Posted June 12, 2014 (edited) Here is the Statue of the White Crane Founder Fang Qiniang. What I'm seeking to ask is what is the significance of the object shown in the statue's left hand? Anyone? Edited June 12, 2014 by Ron Goninan
GrandmasterP Posted June 12, 2014 It is a shuttle and you can just see part of a representation of a ball of silk underneath it on the statue. If you look at the bas relief mural behind the statue you can see that she is weaving at a loom and about to 'throw' the shuttle using her left hand. Hope that helps. thelerner Posted June 12, 2014 I tried to look it up, couldn't find anything. I'm guessing, its a knife! Blade on both ends. I read something about an elbow knife. edit> or it could be a loom shuttle

GrandmasterP Posted June 13, 2014 There's an old story that the 8 strands silk brocade idea comes from that self same weaving loom.
