Silent Meditation Hikes

Recommended Posts

Would you or have you engaged in silent style meditation hikes / walks? Given the communication boundaries set did you get more out of the experience going into it knowing you would be giving up a form of communication? Was it uncomfortable? Did you learn something from the experience? Did you have a different experience of the weather or terrain? Looking for impressions here.

On the opposite side were there safety nets for emergencies? Ways to communicate w/o disrupting the flow of the group? Looking for feedback to aid positive experiences for folks traveling in from out of town and seeing things they've never seen before.

The landscape gives us a common bond. Empathy is a universal ground.

Sharing silence in a society bent on over informing.

Following inner promptings brings quiet accomplishment.

I just did a full moon meditation w/ the IMU people here in Chicago. It was a tad Osho like. It consisted of 45 minutes of empty seated meditation, (not guided, focus on breath) then 15 minutes of dance, another cycle of 45 meditation, 15 dance and ended w/ a third 45 minute meditation. Before meditation there would be a dharma talk, which was reminded me of Echkhardt Tolle. Especially so because the leader had a german accent.

45 minutes is a longish sitting. The dancing helped invigorate and relax everyone. Group meditation certainly has a different dynamic then going solo.
