Owledge Posted February 17, 2015 The spacing between the title's words (THE DÀO BUMS) could be a bit larger. Currently it looks very strange.
Michael Sternbach Posted February 17, 2015 (edited) Nice meeting you, Sean. I was stuck with O-sensei for a day, and my hands started shivering from withdrawal symptoms, but luckily at least my cellphone got things right which helped me figure out what had happened. I have a TTB (um, TDB) friend who is still waiting for Ueshiba to "be back", though. Sorta like Neo stuck at the subway station. I will release him now. That said, the change might help the aforesaid friend to finally get the pronunciation right. Personally, I prefer "Dao", it is indeed more accurate. The Yin Wood Goat is nice, too. Daoistic cheers, Michael Edited February 17, 2015 by Michael Sternbach
Marblehead Posted February 17, 2015 I will remain bi-sexual and use both "Tao" and "Dao". Yes, nice goat.
alenli Posted February 17, 2015 拼音(pinyin)是dao,英文dao和tao都可以,但是tao更流行,我查询过很多域名(domain name),用tao, taoism ,taoist的多于(more than)用d的。

dawei Posted February 17, 2015 I'm all for the D, but don't unnerstand the accent above the A. It looks like a pinyin/W-G hybrid? because that is Hanyu pinyin... Dao is in the fourth tone. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daoism%E2%80%93Taoism_romanization_issue

Apech Posted February 17, 2015 because that is Hanyu pinyin... Dao is in the fourth tone. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daoism%E2%80%93Taoism_romanization_issue From your link ... The initial of tao/dao 道 is a tenuis voiceless alveolar plosive, which is commonly transcribed with the IPA symbol [t], although some sinologists specify [t̥] or [d̥] with the voiceless under-ring diacritic. For example, Jerry Norman (1988:139) explains using [d̥] for Pinyin d, "The stops and affricates fall into two contrasting series, one unaspirated, the other aspirated. The unaspirated series (b, d, z, etc.) is lenis, and often gives the impression of being voiced to the untrained ear. The second series (p, t, c, etc.) is strongly aspirated." ... if you've heard one voiceless under-ring diacritic you've heard them all.

blue eyed snake Posted February 17, 2015 (edited) because that is Hanyu pinyin... Dao is in the fourth tone. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daoism%E2%80%93Taoism_romanization_issue ah, now I understand why my ( chinese) teacher calls taichi taiji, and, the way he says Dao, it's somewhere between D and T I grew up with Peking, now it's Beijing. My name is unpronounceable for native English speakers, I forgive them beforehand and feed them a name they can pronounce. ( and when they still want to try we both have a good laugh ) But I will never let my name be misspelled, so I'm fine with pinyin Edited February 17, 2015 by blue eyed snake
