So... Last night, we went downtown in out little community of about 10,000 people. Five different businesses in a three-block area had live music. We skipped the world champion dulcimer player because they were charging admission (and my wife had already seen him) and walked to a dive bar with a decent alt band from Knoxville playing for tips. Had a beer there (an excellent local brew from just a few miles away) and tipped them well on our way out. From there, we went to a nice restaurant around the corner which had a fantastic bluegrass band. A different local brew followed by a Franziskaner for me while my wife enjoyed yet another local brew (a ginger wheat). Again, we tipped the band generously on our way out. My point? Well, I have read extensively, including since this thread began, and one of the common threads across the many socialist manifestos I have studied has been the efficient use of shared resources for the public good. Nothing about my evening would have fit this ideology. Nothing. You may still think you are drinking Kool-Aid but I have recognized it for what it is and I will resist attempts to pour it down my throat, or the throats of my family, my friends or my community. So the concept of socialism is a unicorn byvits very nature. In fact, the true Socialists maintain that it cannot be implemented on a regional basis or in an incremental fashion. Instead, we are told, this best of all possible societies, this ultimate evolution of mankind, can only be brought about by the forceful destruction of any form of competition on a global basis -- and only then will we understand how wonderful it all is.
