DreamBliss Posted August 23, 2015 I am a little frustrated right now. I can't attach an image because it is too large (1.1 meg in size, but 1000x1000 pixels.) I also can't upload it to Flikr or my Dropbox account, I get an error saying I can't share an image of that extension with the community. So how do I share an image here? What are the maximum dimensions allowed? What extensions or websites are acceptable, if any, for uploading and direct linking? Â Thank you for your time. DreamBliss Posted August 23, 2015 UPDATE OK, so I uploaded it to my blog and that link appears to be working. Why not Dropbox or Flikr?
Brian Posted August 23, 2015 What is the file type?
DreamBliss Posted August 23, 2015 I tried .jpg and .png, 1.1 meg in size, 1000x1000 pixels in dimension.
thelerner Posted August 23, 2015 I have trouble with that too. Can you point us to the guidelines?
Marblehead Posted August 24, 2015 A couple of pointers: Â You can "crop" the image to make it smaller - that will make the file size smaller. Â You can reduce the resolution of the image, say from 1000 x 1000 to 800 x 800 and this too will make the file size smaller.
dawei Posted August 24, 2015 Here is the supported file types: gif, jpeg, jpg, png  The maximum size is:  1200 x 1600.  The system will supposedly resize if greater than this... but there is another setting suggesting it will automatically resize to a value if given (it is given as 620).  I thought there was a maximum storage size but can't find that now.  I will say that each member has a maximum allotment (file space reserved for each) and that alone would make me recommend to folks to try and link to a picture rather than upload one.  if one wants to upload it, then as Marblehead suggests, do a few techniques to try and get a reasonable size first.

Yep, I have had to remove a lot of stuff I uploaded because I ran out of space.
Brian Posted August 24, 2015 <snip> I thought there was a maximum storage size but can't find that now. <snip>  I hadn't responded because I wanted to find where we had determined the actual maximum file size for upload but I haven't had a chance to look. I know it is less than the posted max, though. I would second dawei's recommendation to link to an image on another site when possible.
Stosh Posted August 26, 2015 I have similar issues with this sizing issue on another site,  1000 pixels along the horizontal is still a pretty big pic for insertion into these posting boxes though. as Mh suggested , maybe 800 or 600 on the horizontal will fit without resizing further. the file size will probably  be somewhere less than a megabyte even minimally compressed as JPEG . PNG is falling out of use as a standard compression and I wouldn't use it (or store anything in png.) , I dont think PNG worked on flickr last time I tried it, they really work best with plain JPEG , and really do a nice job handling any size of it.
