How do I take back control of qi and direct it to the Dan Tian, whenever it's suitable?

Recommended Posts

I'm often in a state where i've got lots of Qi in my body, or too much Qi in the wrong place.

For example, when I feel angry I feel a release of Qi within me which makes me really want to hit something, rather than keep it for something more practical. After this, I feel drained of energy.

Another instance is when i'm sexually aroused but I don't have a partner to have sex with. So i waste my jing/qi through masturbation, rather than keeping the energy and directing it to my Dan Tian.

When i'm in that kind of state of mind, instead of surrendering to it, how can I control that volatile energy and direct it to my Dan Tian? Thank you

P.S. I'd rather not encourage sexual arousal in order to complete the microcosmic orbit (as described by Mantak Chia), because it is advised to beginners of Qigong to abstain from all sexual activity for 100 days (which I haven't even started). I also used to be dependent on pornography, so I don't want to begin masturbating again.

P.P.S. I'm in my early 20's.

hmm.. maybe you should work on grounding type things.  Long walks in nature, sweaty work outs, putting attention in the dan tien (also rubbing the area in a circle) after meditation.

I am having same issues like you and the best exercises yet are just planks, better than 5 tibetan rites 100 times.

IF you correct your faults you will have more self control. Relying on exercises and energy manipulation is not going to be a lasting solution.

Interesting, but does this allow Qi to flow to the lower Dan Tian? It feels like its making the body as tense as possible to forcefully resist whatever Qi may be in the body, rather than keeping the body flexible and loose to allow Qi to freely flow through you.

"Qi to flow to the lower Dan Tian" this is such a misleading metaphor taken from ancient texts misinterpreted by taichi crowd then qigong crowd, analysed back and forth and it leads to such stupid things people do to "make Qi flow".

Well, what else does it do? I can even feel it moving when I try to direct it around my microcosmic orbit.

I prefer much more the 5 elements meditation, in which you focus on the organs around the navel, whith starting and finish behind the navel. But I don't do it too much, only when I really need it. Otherwise I let the 5 elements flow on their own, which is what they are suppose to do. And even better I meditate on the emotions of he organs in which you replace fear with kindness in the kidneys, anger with benevolence in the liver, hatred with joy in the heart, worry with openness in the spleen and sadness with courage in the lungs, and all this will make qi flow naturally.

Stand in preparation form (any IMA has it) and just make the adjustments - crown point suspended, tailbone gently tucked and back slightly rounded, tongue touching the upper palate. And stand and breath, put your mind to your lower dan tien. This always drops the qi there for me. Sometimes however if you are agitated its better to distract the mind and go somewhere peaceful or for a long walk or work on a garden, water plants etc. these activities will ground you. Once your qi is grounded, you can stand again and sink the qi. Agitated qi gets filtered through the earth and becomes "clean" again.

I'd definitely recommend healing sounds for these kinds of emotional reactions. I used to do standing meditation every day but ended up in a accident and couldn't do it for a while. I replaced it with performing the healing sounds (as per Mantak Chia) while lying down. I'd never done them before for an extended period of time (over three months), but I'm a complete convert now. For me, they definitely reduce over reacting emotionally to situations. However, I'm slightly older and so not subjected to the ups and downs of being a male in my 20's any more....

Andrei's 1st post (having issues quoting it) in this thread makes me sad. Directing chi to the lower dantian after energywork is not only intensely practical and not metaphorical in any sense, it is definitely a fundamental part of basic internal cultivation. Without it, any hope of advancement is greatly diminished at best, or delusional at worst.

Anyways, it sounds like you have yet to begin cultivating your "YI" aka intent. This amplifies the amount of chi that is moved by ones focused attention. Seeing as though I consider myself a student, and not yet designated to teach , I can't give a practice persay, other than something general. concentrate on the lower dan, and to say to yourself mentally that your chi is moving to this place in an increasing amount. Know that this is happening, and it shall be. Like malik said, the chi already flows with your attention, it is just more efficient to amplify this.

Over time, you will find that this will enhance your ability to move the chi thorough the body, and can be turned on like a switch without thought, as the shen(which is where intent/yi comes from) is utilized more frequently and your channels are purified. Also dwai's recommendations on posture and position of the tounge are great and very pertinent to remember. I hope this helps.

By the way, if you have any questions at all, especially pertaining to the location of the lower dantian, please let me know. Because accumulating chi in the incorrect place can very easily have a disastrous effects on ones health. I wish you luck.

Sorry it was andrei's 2nd post that irked me.

And I forgot to mention that the best course of action is to find a teacher. I implore you, because there is always a posibility something can go wrong by the merit of not having anyone to correct you. It is a sad fate not to have anyone to turn to in such a situation and to have inadequate medical attention at best.

You can direct chi to the dantian area. For the the purposes outline you'd be better off sticking your head in a blender. It just won't work for you practically.

The best way to deal with these things is to find the natural state of unborn awareness, where it feels like you're just sitting back watching all these things happen. Then you don't even have to do anything! It's as simple as just watching it all fizzle out. Get better at staying in this state and all your problems will just sort themselves out. It may take time but you just stay there and it all purifies naturally. The state is like rain on a bush fire. Might take some time but you just keep going and eventually the fire will be put out.

It's nothing too out-there either. It's not the same as your thoughts stopping, although it tends to be like that. Probably the easiest way to get into the state is to think of a paradox and let your brain fail at working it out. When it fails it tends to switch to the aware state briefly if you allow it to. Or possibly next time you read something and it doesn't make sense, just be ok with that and see if your brain lets go. This all has to happen on it's own. Your job is to find the triggers so that it happens automatically (more and more often).

Then the result is that you have these kind of "issues" but instead of them using you it's the other way around. You can use them like tools. In other words you an watch as much porn as you want to haha.

Everything is resolved in the Unborn ;)
