This is Major Tom to Ground Control
I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating
in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today

Though I'm past
one hundred thousand miles
I'm feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go

I thought he died a long long time ago.

He actually just stopped performing when he found out he had cancer.  But after a while he started performing again, probably thinking that he still had to live until he died.

Here's a video from his just released new album.

It's pretty out there, experimental but its gotten good reviews.

Its the way an artist should go out, with new passionate material.

You know that was based on a line from the song 'man who sold the world' and not a comment ?

Didn't know what time it was and the lights were low

I leaned back on my radio

Some cat was layin' down some rock 'n' roll 'lotta soul,

he said

Then the loud sound did seem to fade

Came back like a slow voice on a wave of phase

That weren't no D.J. that was hazy cosmic jive

I used to lie in bed with a little Philips radio tucked under the pillow listening to that song on radio Luxembourg as a young lad. The radio station was so weak that it used to fade in and out with static. It was as if he was talking about the experience I was having.

Transistor radios!  I have similar memories.  A tranny meant something different in those days.

T.V wasn't something with a cathode ray tube.

Everything was a bit electrical back then.

AC/DC wasn't just a rock band

We had, basically a box of cogs and you had a transmission. It's a verb for a noun, but it makes it sound ethereal. Americans really do the auto erotica thing very well. My little Duce coup doesn't translate to Morris minor countryman. You got big block V8 and we got a Rover. We couldn't even get a sexy name for the sexiest car ever produced the E type.

Try driving a Skoda Fellatio ... at least I think that's what it's called.

Felicia ? Which means 'happy things' apparently. That would definitely be the driver in your life example.
