The origin of mankind

Recommended Posts

Mans nature is perfect. Only because it is and can be no different than it is. A rock or a flower is perfect because it cannot ever be more or less than it is.

You went Taoist on me!  Not fair.

Perfection is a conceptual judgement. Man is a volitional animal and therefore must be judgemental by nature.

Exactly.  Anything beyond the pure objective can be judged.  The objective is what it is and, as you said, is perfect.

So we all have a perfect nature, it's our judgement that is necessarily imperfect, otherwise we wouldn't be exactly what we are :-)

I hope you are reading my very laborious objectivism 101. It's got all that stuff in it.

Well, I read the first post in it.  I'm waiting for the call to read the other posts.

But yes, perfect although I prefer using my "special and unique" phrase.  "Perfect" has too many connotations.

You mean you are waiting to get up the enthusiasm to read all the other posts ;-) I'm not even certain why I'm doing it. I think it's partly about improving my own understanding. Peikoff has said in a few of his lectures that whilst writing his version-that I'm plagerising to an extent-that he would discover that things he was certain he knew, were actually somewhat I'll defined.

Special and unique have too many connotations these days. :-)

Another word is infinite-that's a word that should be excised from the dictionary.

Do you want a perfect stomach?

I want sufficient food in it to survive. I can't fill it with love and no amount of love will fill it.

I don't argue your truth but I think it has always been this way.  Little has changed and I don't expect any significant changes in the near future.

You don't have to be always so pessimistic.

Love in the future is a fantasy.

Dear Junko, I am not a pessimist.  I really am an optimist.  But I am also a realist.  Reality rules regardless of what visions I have in my brain.

If we look at the history of humanity we will see that love has not been a dominant feature.  Sure, we see it here and there.  Mother Teresa is a perfect example.  But she didn't change anything beyond her own life span.

Sure, it would be wonderful if all humans would live in harmony and be loving and helpful, one to the other.  Even this we see within small, non-competitive groups.  But even this ends at the outer edges of the group.

I'm not being pessimistic, I am being realistic.  There are thorns on the rose bush.

I could be extraterrestrial.I see myself being human. What's so bad being proud of it?

I didnt say it was bad ... I was more surprised than anything.

I can answer your question with another;   dont you think humans have caused a lot of problems for the plants, other animals, environment (on which they themselves depend) and each other ?

I am sure you know what I mean, without posting the horrible pictures ?     Why be proud of that ... actually, what is it .... what part of the human effects we have had ...   are you proud of ?

I think justified self pride is good for the soul.  Sure, we still screw some things up but that's only because we aren't perfect yet.

I am :-)

I think you mean , for yourself ....  this is as good as it gets      :)

However, for some of us, with a much higher potential, perfection is harder to achieve     whistling2.gif

edit:

reminding me of the makingof those beautiful persian carpets, the weavers intentionally wove an error in these carpets, because: " only god is perfect"

Damn you ... no  !   smiley-face-shaking-fist.gif      I am not going to spend the rest of my morning looking for the one stitch thats out !

I watched old persian ladies make them once .... amazing ! So quick and nimble. I asked how she knew what colour and knot to put where while she was making it (as she had no pattern, map or notes , and it was a very complex geometrical design ) and she said the instructions were in her head - in the form of a song she learnt as a child. I said it must be a long song, she agreed, I asked how many of these songs she knew ( how many designs she could make )  and she said around 30 of them

Now I shout it from the highest hills

Even told the golden daffodils

At last my heart's an open door

And my secret love's no secret anymore

Dear Marblehead, please excuse me if I read you that way.But I am not saying it's you some people just can't see themself until they have to hit thier head or they even have to die to understand from what they have to learn in life.Off course everyone is individual.

It's just this over internet way to communicate with people give me strang feeling and sometimes cold for me.I am sorry that I got you wrong.

Sincerely,
