Just like in TCM, it is closely associated with the blood vessels. It's extensive to the point that it is found in every organ, every tissue - even spinal cord and brain. (You can look at the first link with the slides which gives you an overview of the entire thing)  Korean researchers (of the first study cited above) believe the primo-vascular system is in fact the physical component of the Acupuncture Meridian System. They've also suggested that this system is involved in channelling the flow of energy and information relayed by biophotons (electromagnetic waves of light) and DNA. They propose that the anatomical basis for the PVS and this energy, also known as "Qi," is "an electromagnetic wave that is involved very closely with the DNA in the PVS and that DNA "provides genetics information" and "functions as a store of information that can be obtained from the electromagnetic fields of the environment."   Turns out all of those channels we try to "open" may be an actual physical thing. The reason why we can "feel" them seems to be because they seem to be travelling as "waves". I wouldn't be surprised if this is the actual thing governing our body's health.  What do you think?  I'm quite excited, especially about further research - hopefully they discover something like chakras or the three dantians and clear up the confusion once and for all.
