dawei Posted June 13, 2016 The big news is that the upgrade has been effected on a test environment and staff is look it over. I suspect that regular member accounts will likely provide us with some necessary feedback so after the update goes 'live', we will definitely appreciate any feedback. Don't think we don't want to hear about issues now that we upgraded. The staff has been able to work with Sean to get some streamlined approaches to having the technical work done into the future. So I believe we can likely be more responsive to some of the recent kinds of issues which have arisen, but my hope is that the upgrade and improved security will take care of most of it. Just to be clear, we're updating from 3.4.1 to 3.4.9... not the most recent version of 4.x. The big reason is that 4.x is a major security revamp and there have been colorful feedback from folks who are using it. I've had some personal experience too as one can actually get their own personal 4.x for a week to look at it. The main issue that concerned me and which I passed along to Sean regards one of our (TDB) hallmark aspects: The self-moderator of their own PPD. The manner in which a 'local moderator' is setup for a PPD is very easy and elegant in 3.x... but in 4.x, they moved the basic method of assigning local moderators. I think that TDB was using it in a more cutting edge than most sites So, to make a long story, short... we are upgrading to the last 3.x while IPB allows it... and there are several options being considered for where to go from there. I would like to say that everyone's feedback, however critical, is much appreciated. While I can jest about the idea that a 'down' website means that staff can "take the day off", we do take the expectations and frustrations to heart. dawei Posted June 13, 2016 Thanks guys As an update, the testing is going well and everything in the test environment is operating as expected. We'll likely have an update a little later to announce our next steps.
dawei Posted June 13, 2016 UPDATE: TDB will get upgraded tomorrow morning around 9am EST (US). It should not be offline long but give it at least 30 minutes.

It may feel like there is nothing different as the UI is completely the same... same for the back-end. If you notice any issues, let us know here.

Apech Posted June 14, 2016 Dividing (seperating) one quote into two doesn't work. Is that from the book of Thogal wisdom?
dawei Posted June 14, 2016 Dividing (seperating) one quote into two doesn't work. Yes... seems oddly so... at least multi-quoting still works.

Daeluin Posted June 14, 2016 Yes... seems oddly so... at least multi-quoting still works. Seems like this was part of the design - lots of feedback on this in IPB forums, but no resolutions I could find.

dawei Posted June 14, 2016 We still want pictures. Keep'em PG13 though. It seems silly but I can quote the same one twice to effect it the issue seems discussed all the way back to 2012... so not sure if our delayed upgrade simply unknowingly preserved a basic feature. I also switched to code mode and then used copy / paste to insert the quote header and footer around... pain though
Marblehead Posted June 15, 2016 (edited) Copy/paste is not working for me. I am using MS 10 with Edge. Note: Copy/paste still works fine with Pale Moon though. Edited June 15, 2016 by Marblehead

Daeluin Posted June 15, 2016 Hmm.... what was it like before? Just bold for unread threads, but no dot, unless you were following and then the dark blue star?
Apech Posted June 15, 2016 Hmm.... what was it like before? Just bold for unread threads, but no dot, unless you were following and then the dark blue star? There was a different sign but I can't describe it. No problem though. Except the star and the blue splodge are quite similar.
