Could immortality be equal to eternal adaptation to changing conditions?

I think lifespan is earth element. And so to have more of it ( in the system...any system) there needs to be a lot of the other 3 elements aka purpose for it. All the 4 elements are all the 4 elements meaning every elements shares the theme of purpose for everything it does (fire). For someone who has spend the last 30 years watching on average 1 hour of TV it would be a waste to give them triple lifespan through some special exercises. If one is to live a long time, I think they should be "big" enough for it. They are the kind of life form that would do something wiht that time. Time without life is like earth element without fire....which is life the spiritual realms without the physical .... a booring dead illusions...purposeless, etc. Its yin without the yang. 

 

And funny we get to see this sort of trend in the world. Those creatures who live for longer do something with that time.

Well he found the Way through ha, I should have given a better description I suppose! at the bottom of the waterfall there are both safe areas of water (life) and shallow (death)... his leap seems to be that of a madman taking such a risk, high probability of suffering/death. Yet he emerges from the water laughing. He leaps because he is in the flow of Life and is untouchable knowing the Way.

We live on in the memories of our loved ones. Others forget us for a time, and then something reminds them of us. But a 100 years go by, there is no memory of us at all, unless were important enough to make our mark in history.

Religion was born to give answers and hopes about being Dorian Gray.

 

If you're Christian, you believe that your immortality will manifest in Paradise.

If you're buddhist or hindu, you believe that your mind is immortal, but it periodically changes body

But wasn't Mr. Gray a miserable person. And wasn't he the guy that never got old, while everyone did and died around him? Now why would you want that kind of life...live forever and your wife gets old and ugly and dies, and you stay young and attractive? Don't you think that people would notice and become a nusiance? What would you do about a job you could not retire out of. What would you do about health insurance and the company nurse checking you all the time? How many cars would you go through? Or what about space travel? Now that's a "bennie !" You get into a space ship that is heading  for a spot 100 million light years away. Now that would work for you, because you wouldn't age, according to Einstein. You blast off from Earth, and land at Contry "D"...all fresh as a daisey blumming on the frist day of Spring.

 

And imagine if there is life on Country "D" and they don't look anything like us. Well, you could out live them too. Or maybe the'd put you in one of their side shows, or circus. Or what about their scientists and medical examiners on this planet Country D. Oh what fun!!!

 

Well, I am half Italian and look pretty good for my age, thanks to Mom. You can have your Dorian Gray. :-)

I would agree that it is theoretically possible. Extended length of life is also the natural result of energetic balance. But, pursuing it as an end itself is based on desire and fear, and as such, one is unlikely to find the balance necessary to achieve it.

 

Pretty much this.

 

The idea I get is that to attain physical immortality rather than simply a long life is that one needs to transcend the polarity of life and death, which is done by merging the two to find their gate then going beyond it, or something like this.

 

If one's primary goal is to live forever, they are likely to be clinging to one side of the polarity of life and death. In order to accomplish that goal they would probably need to surrender it first.

We are regenerating, actually "replacing" our skin cells about every 28 days.

 

In 10 years, we are replacing our bones.

Eternal life was the first breaking point in Christianity for me.  As a concept it was terrifying right off the bat.

 

Within the context of eternally enduring, unending and unchanging... both heaven and hell seem like hell to me.

I am not sure if there is a greater curse than physical immortality. To watch all your loved ones pass on throughout infinity? The sun in approximately 4 billion years will get too hot for the earth to retain all its water and the oceans will boil away... being immortal means you get to enjoy the heat. The wish does not include invulnerability to heat and pain, just that someone will live for all eternity. YIKES.

 

"death" is merely a change anyways so there is no problem with death to me.

The Spirit is Immortal (and developing, like video games you respawn (Immortal), experience makes you better?), the body has a subtle energetic blue print, when the connection to this blue print is cut/ obstructed the physical body starts to deteriorate. I imagine when the connection with spirit increases to a certain degree the blue print is empowered/ radiating more energy which changes the expression of the mortal body (mostly earth) to a heaven-earth body? something like that?
