sagebrush Posted September 16, 2016 I do not believe nor can I step outside of my beliefs that things can all be distilled into this question: do I want to be right or free? most of the time I think I am incorrect. and what exactly does free really mean. and does somebody think that I would believe for one minute that they can take me to free? I do like to debate and it is problematic. what does a debate look like to me: my view vs. your view the human body is a mystery..I would not call it a package of meat. I had a wart on my big toe for about 10 days. until I said to myself I have a wart on my big toe. a wart to me is a belief in ugliness. the wart is gone. on mars the highest mountain in 80k feet elevation... I know things you do not know.
thelerner Posted September 16, 2016 I generally distill it into, do I want peace or to keep arguing. Seems to me, once I've listened to there argument and stated my truth (little t) my job is done. 90% of the time no one wins an internet argument, maybe the odds are a little better in real life, but not by much.
blue eyed snake Posted September 16, 2016 (edited) do I want to be right or free? me thinks, when you're free, you will have lost the urge to be right ( in the sense of getting the better in an argument) Edited September 16, 2016 by blue eyed snake
Karl Posted September 16, 2016 False alternative. It's possible to be right and free. Of course it's important to define 'right' and 'free' in context. Right about what and free from what ?
Marblehead Posted September 16, 2016 I'll opt for free. I'm wrong often and that doesn't bother me any more. Without freedom I am next to nothing.

Teddy Posted September 16, 2016 I am free to shake my groove thang, if I so please. I am right to shake my groove thang, for I am funky. I don't understand why you think we need to choose between being right or free. Does it have something to do with martian mountains and how high they are? How high are you? Take it easy dude. silent thunder Posted September 16, 2016 To me, it is that when you are tied to being right, your experience of life is dominated by outcome and you will not experience free... When you hold a position, defend it and seek victory in social contracts, you will always be the slave of the outcome and thus, not free.
