( which was a very useful art to me when I was engaged in a long court case against the government (yes, I won, twice .... they wanted 'best out of three', apparently, after I won the first one ) here is the founder of the tradition I am involved with ; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matsumura_S%C5%8Dkon (although we dont practice Jigen-ryu style sword - that is specifically for battle ) It passed down the generations - son, grandson ,nephew, the last who died without a heir in 2007 - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nishihira_Kosei Unfortunately, being a family tradition / style , that meant it ended there . LAOLONG Posted October 24, 2016 It is interesting to me because the name Shinto that is not referring to the Japanese Shinto religion ,but to way of the spirit ,Shinto is shen Tao in Chinese. Nungali Posted October 24, 2016 Shinto means ' the way of Gods' so it is applicable to many things . Shinto , in the religious sense is an abbreviation based on 'shen' , which is roughly translated as 'spirit' , but more correctly (for the Japanese) as 'kami' .
