Karl Posted November 7, 2016 The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out, without regard to the prevailing superstitions or taboos. Almost inevitably, he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane, and intolerable. H L Mencken I kind of think that about the people supporting it. CloudHands Posted November 7, 2016 More seriously, I agree with thelerner, that's no big deal Clinton is nothing more than a pure politician dealing with the rise of Sanders. She will not be able to apply resolution she has no faith in and... until it get to you all and have the will to change your voting system, clean NAS CIA FBI and have a clearer idea of what's better for most your politic won't change much. Your goal and that's in your best immediate interest (let's admit you are middle class or more) stay ruling rather than fall. There have been by far worst empires... Even in the recent history. You know I'd relocate in USA for nothing in the world but if you think about US in regard of Brits and Turkish genocides... sounds almost decent.
joeblast Posted November 7, 2016 It's good to have a sense of humor, and a sense of history. When Reagan was elected there were end of the world parties throughout Europe. A little tongue in cheek, but he was considered a wreckless short sighted 'cowboy' who'd wreak havoc on the world stage. Things have been similar (unfortunately true w/ Bush II) with most other modern presidents. Dire predictions of disaster turn out, for the most part, empty. The worst hype about the 'other' candidate is untrue. Also the ship of state moves and turns slowly. Policies take years to be shaped and voted on, even longer to take affect. The US government is still a system of checks and balances. And odds are it will continue to be a 'mixed' government with Republicans having 1 or both houses of congress and (probably) a Democrat in the White House. (1) American Indian nations (1776 onwards, American Indian Genocide; 1803, Louisiana Purchase; 1844, Indians banned from east of the Mississippi; 1861 onwards, California genocide; 1890, Lakota Indians massacre), (2) Mexico (1836-1846; 1913; 1914-1918; 1923), (3) Nicaragua (1856-1857; 1894; 1896; 1898; 1899; 1907; 1910; 1912-1933; 1981-1990), (4) American forces deployed against Americans (1861-1865, Civil War; 1892; 1894; 1898; 1899-1901; 1901; 1914; 1915; 1920-1921; 1932; 1943; 1967; 1968; 1970; 1973; 1992; 2001), (5), Argentina (1890), (6), Chile (1891; 1973), (7) Haiti (1891; 1914-1934; 1994; 2004-2005), (8) Hawaii (1893-), (9) China (1895-1895; 1898-1900; 1911-1941; 1922-1927; 1927-1934; 1948-1949; 1951-1953; 1958), (10) Korea (1894-1896; 1904-1905; 1951-1953), (11) Panama (1895; 1901-1914; 1908; 1912; 1918-1920; 1925; 1958; 1964; 1989-), (12) Philippines (1898-1910; 1948-1954; 1989; 2002-), (13) Cuba (1898-1902; 1906-1909; 1912; 1917-1933; 1961; 1962), (14) Puerto Rico (1898-; 1950; ); (15) Guam (1898-), (16) Samoa (1899-), (17) Honduras (1903; 1907; 1911; 1912; 1919; 1924-1925; 1983-1989), (18) Dominican Republic (1903-1904; 1914; 1916-1924; 1965-1966), (19) Germany (1917-1918; 1941-1945; 1948; 1961), (20) Russia (1918-1922), (21) Yugoslavia (1919; 1946; 1992-1994; 1999), (22) Guatemala (1920; 1954; 1966-1967), (23) Turkey (1922), (24) El Salvador (1932; 1981-1992), (25) Italy (1941-1945); (26) Morocco (1941-1945), (27) France (1941-1945), (28) Algeria (1941-1945), (29) Tunisia (1941-1945), (30) Libya (1941-1945; 1981; 1986; 1989; 2011), (31) Egypt (1941-1945; 1956; 1967; 1973; 2013), (32) India (1941-1945), (33) Burma (1941-1945), (34) Micronesia (1941-1945), (35) Papua New Guinea (1941-1945), (36) Vanuatu (1941-1945), (37) Austria (1941-1945), (38) Hungary (1941-1945), (39) Japan (1941-1945), (40) Iran (1946; 1953; 1980; 1984; 1987-1988; ), (41) Uruguay (1947), (42) Greece (1947-1949), (43) Vietnam (1954; 1960-1975), (44) Lebanon (1958; 1982-1984), (45) Iraq (1958; 1963; 1990-1991; 1990-2003; 1998; 2003-2011), (46) Laos (1962-), (47) Indonesia (1965), (48) Cambodia (1969-1975; 1975), (49) Oman (1970), (50) Laos (1971-1973), (51) Angola (1976-1992), (52) Grenada (1983-1984), (53) Bolivia (1986; ), (54) Virgin Islands (1989), (55) Liberia (1990; 1997; 2003), (56) Saudi Arabia (1990-1991), (57) Kuwait (1991), (58) Somalia (1992-1994; 2006), (59) Bosnia (1993-), (60) Zaire (Congo) (1996-1997), (61) Albania (1997), (62) Sudan (1998), (63) Afghanistan (1998; 2001-), (64) Yemen (2000; 2002-), (65) Macedonia (2001), (66) Colombia (2002-), (67) Pakistan (2005-), (68) Syria (2008; 2011-), (69) Uganda (2011), (70) Mali (2013), (71) Niger (2013). something about wreaking havoc on the world stage.......GHWB & Reagan, FTW and w dont mean win, it means warinvasion
redcairo Posted November 7, 2016 Gee whiz, Joe, you say that like it's a bad thing. (...) Policy didn't start moving fast until Obama. The medical thing -- in a system like ours, it's nothing like it would be in a system where megaubercorps aren't running all the agencies, education, licensing, drugs, most food, and profits -- has deep roots into everything and is a profound, really profound, policy change -- it isn't just about medicine, it's about 'control' in so many ways. Given HC's insistence she will take down the 2nd Amendment, and O's actual inroads to by proxy undermining it indirectly, it seems likely something is going to happen there, and possibly about the 1st A as well -- that'll be the most 'official' policy change in our history if it happens. As far as people overseas hating Reagan, let 'em hate our government, I am more concerned about US having reason to do so! RC

The US government is still a system of checks and balances. And odds are it will continue to be a 'mixed' government with Republicans having 1 or both houses of congress and (probably) a Democrat in the White House. OTOH, although very vague beforehand, Nostradamus has had a pretty decent track record in hindsight... The great shameless, audacious bawler, He will be elected governor of the army: The boldness of his contention, The bridge broken, the city faint from fear. The masculine woman will exert herself to the north She will annoy nearly all of Europe and the rest of the world. Two failures will put her in such an imbalance That both life and death will strengthen Eastern Europe Great exertions towards the North by a man-woman to vex Europe and almost all the Universe. The two eclipses will be put into such a rout that they will reinforce life or death for the Eastern Europeans. The false message about the rigged election to run through the city stopping the broken pact; voices bought, chapel stained with blood, the empire contracted to another one. The trumpet shakes with great discord. An agreement broken: lifting the face to heaven: the bloody mouth will swim with blood; the face anointed with milk and honey lies on the ground. After great trouble for humanity, a greater one is prepared The Great Mover renews the ages: Rain, blood, milk, famine, steel and plague, Is the heavens fire seen, a long spark running. Following one great human tragedy, a greater lies in wait… Alas, how we will see a great nation sorely troubled and the holy law in utter ruin. Christianity (governed) throughout by other laws, when a new source of gold and silver is discovered. The wretched, unfortunate republic will again be ruined by a new authority. The great amount of ill will accumulated in exile will make the Swiss break their important agreement. The false trumpet concealing madness will cause Byzantium to change its laws. redcairo Posted November 11, 2016 I always find stuff like that interesting, but to me it's too vague, even if there are syncs. Most the determination of what something 'really' means can't come until well after, if the whole thing matches up tight. Some of the things said I think could apply to more than this election/country. Don't you think? RC
Karl Posted November 11, 2016 We can't even predict the weather accurately for the next few hours. More mystic nonsense. If it's read as a bit of fun then fine, but it's useless to set your diary by.
9th Posted November 11, 2016 How do I focus on anything else right now? It feels like the world is seriously going down the drain. Getting older helps. It often seems there is an inverse relationship to "age" and "number of fucks given".
Stosh Posted November 13, 2016 How do I focus on anything else right now? It feels like the world is seriously going down the drain. In the past 3 years I went from having this undeniable faith that the world is waking up. To this sudden harsh awakening that humanity is in shambles and at this point nothing is going to change it. It's definitely not heading in a better direction. The way people treat each other and act and think has gotten visibly worse since let's say 2012. The only moments of content I feel are when I let go of my attachment to this planet and my life. I welcome an asteroid to start it all over. Anyone else feeling confused and conflicted over this mess ? What mess?
