I never said what I posted initially as the ultimate and exclusive method. Thants the beauty of our path: many methods and many beings (human in this case).  Because of karmic reasons I'll continue posting in relation to the Theravada Tradition.  1. Right Concentration.  http://www.buddhanet.net/wingsae.htm  2. Awareness of the Body. U Ba Khin's method (Burma).  https://host.pariyatti.org/treasures/The_Ancient_Roots_of_the_U_Ba_Khin_Vipassana_Meditation.pdf  3. 32 Body Parts.  http://32parts.com/  As always, thank you Lord Buddha  Happy practice to all.

thelerner Posted May 27, 2017 Is there a wrong way to meditate..? I dunno. My meditation is less comfortable then it was a decade ago. I strive not to fall into the trance state I once did easily. Instead I cling to empty awareness. Which is also nice, deeply peaceful at times, but not the sleeplike state of deeper trance. My senses are still on. Not clingy but on.  Much of that is influenced by Adyavaita's writings and a few others. Or as my old Aikido sensei would say, the Nothing that is Something. Not the nothing that is nothing.
Fa Xin Posted May 27, 2017 I would say the wrong way to meditate is trying to force something - whatever it may be (forcing stillness, visualizations, energy, whatever it may be).  Expecting things to happen (kinda falls under forcing)
