GreytoWhite Posted May 13, 2017 A lot of times those of us who put in the work for meditation and martial arts are completely unknown outside of these circles. My Chen taijiquan teacher would never be recognized for it unless someone knew him well - he's a master cigar blender and roller. My Yin Fu and BK Frantzis bagua teacher was known as a commercial real estate agent. Me? I'm a local performance poet and storyteller. I also write poetry and fiction. I'll probably have some weird kid a few decades from now reading my posthumous work. Â So what about you?

Brian Posted May 13, 2017 I am generally unknown. Â In some circles, I am known for an uncanny ability (like all superpowers, it's a gift and a curse) to evoke eye-rolls and deep sighs when I start a sentence with, "Well, actually..." Â That and being a CIO (for those who know me in the public sphere).
rene Posted May 13, 2017 I am known as the human who fills the food bowls, magically appears when there is real trouble, and 'accidently' drops people food for a quick 4-legged clean up.

silent thunder Posted May 13, 2017 My oldest friends and those who saw me perform, know me as a classically trained stage actor, stand up comedian and poet. I spent a decade or so (80's 90's), performing the classics and touring. I am a founding member of the Minnesota Shakespeare Company (still going) and The Conspiracy Theatre Group (long since dead).  I left acting in 94, just when I started to gain notoriety Off-Broadway and was on the verge of being put into 'the machine' by my agent. At this point, I experienced a vajra moment where I realized that the loss of my privacy and anonimity would be my ruin, along with the very understanding of the incredible toll of creating and sustaining these highly charged emotional states was not healthy... and in one moment, that entire life, fell away without any effort and was done.  I still write poetry and essays. Writing is healing.  Now I'm known only for being a semi-retired, smart ass and among my co-workers, I'm known as a certified bad=-ass woodworker (i have the sticker to prove this) and a sculptor, who asks incessant and oddly detailed questions about the nature of perception and cognition while building scenery and props for tv and film here in hollyweird.  In my neighborhood I'm known for having hair like Einstein and walking barefoot.
Aetherous Posted May 13, 2017 Being wise, kind, sweet, a loyal friend, unusual or "his own person", annoyingly quiet or shy, a little crazy, stupid, jerk, uncontrollable, an enigma, intense, more honest than anyone to a fault, smart.

My Yin Fu and BK Frantzis bagua teacher was known as a commercial real estate agent. Me? I'm a local performance poet and storyteller. I also write poetry and fiction. I'll probably have some weird kid a few decades from now reading my posthumous work.  So what about you?  Poet and story teller here too !       Its a dying art  though    Eg, each time one of the kids  ( we had about 9 here  and all their network of friends ) would have a party, they would camp out by the river near our 'meditation sanctuary ' .  I would  go down at night and tell stories by the fire, they would always demand a 'scary one ', over only 2 years I saw this degenerate to ;   sleeping bags on  the sanctuary floor, no fire, no cooking (  snack and crap food )  and  ( the reason they are in sanctuary is , although it is an open building with no walls on the river side, it has electricity connected )  they all plugged in and playing computer games, and no one gets a fire together or wants to hear stories.  Sad.  Not so with the indigenous here though ... the LOVE  em !    I have a story  based on some early history ;  Pemulway !  Man of earth - The Rainbow Warrior  ..... its got acting , gesturing, dancing  ....  a fake eye prop  ....  ( I can use a pipi shell and come charcoal from the fore  ) ,  oh yeah, scary parts - of course  ... the whole bit .  The LOVE it !   But I do and have done a great variety of things  so  it changes .  In the film industry I was known as Dr Bacon ... known for my bacon  ... wtf !  I was known for my radio show I used to do - 'Pagan Roots '  ( that changed to a night show ; 'Pagan Knights' ... then it became ' Pagan  Knights Rooting ' ... but the station made me change that name .  In my community I guess I have been known to be a mediator and trouble sorter outer  ( thinks .... hmmmm ... I have had 4 jobs like that . )  I have also been known as a satanic baby eater type .....  with some , and in the same area ,  with others as an eclectic occultist. .  Last three GFs say I am known for  being a nice guy ....  never a  problem with me and my anger or temper ... VERY patient and understanding   ( they tell me that  some time AFTER  our relationship   )  yet my lawyer said I look like the type of guy that would stab someone . ...     Also I suspect I may have been known for 'something else'  that the ladies were gossiping about .... cant think why else I used to have all those GFs back then  ( too old now )  ... I certainly aint a good looker nor got the usual qualities .   Oh yeah ... for a while back I was known as a tarot reader , as I used to do it at the markets , thats a public exposure . Also I git known for a time for focalising about 6 of our alternative festivals . Thats was over about 8 years. Many people got to know who I was ... I had no idea who they were when they would later say hello .... even when I went to work interstate ... I would just bluff it , say hi and smile .  Once this lady starts raving to me at a shopping mall .... I am tying to bluff but got busted , she "You dont even know who I am do you ! ? "  " Ummmm .... did I read your cards .... nurse you in hospital ....   give you a massage  ... where you a stall holder at a festival  ... ummmm  < thinks >  Oh no , I wanst  that drunk was I ?!  ....    and she frowns at me and goes ;  'NO !  I am your auntie ! "  Shit !      I guess I am known mostly, for being diverse.  ..... and having a bad memory  ... and wandering around shopping centres off my face   .....  but mostly as a story teller

liminal_luke Posted May 14, 2017 (edited) Among my friends, I´m known for buying expensive cheese for our happyhour get-togethers and sitting on the floor right next to the platter eating more than my fair share.  Also, for making up silly diet goals for myself like "I will never eat sugary desserts alone, only in a social context" -- and then begging my friends to eat a spoonful of Grater´s icecream with me so I can have some without breaking my rules.  And for my unwillingness to share shrimp fried rice.  My fame goes beyond gluttony; I´m also known for my sloth.  This is especially the case when it comes to yardwork.  Some people say I have "touch issues" but that´s a vicious rumor and you shouldn´t put any stock in it.   I hope to be known for my kindness. liminal_luke Posted May 14, 2017 Once, during a chi gung workshop, an unfortunate gastrointestinal incident led one of the participants to nickname me with the dubious Daoist moniker "Green Cloud." I imagine I would be known for that had anyone lived. Â Sadly, they did not.
