The "flipside" is an expression of duality.  Flipping the coin is change.

Hi Marblehead,

Thank you for filling the gap so aptly.

Yes, I think likewise.

Flipsides are the dualistic components of an aspect e.g. (x+)X(x-).

As intended in Nature, (x+)X(x-) exist effortlessly (wuweilessly) in a harmonised dynamic balance.

Then man/woman appear and this aspect becomes:

- (X+)x(x-)

- (x+)x(X-)

- (x+)y(z-)

- (+<)?(>-)

- ..............

I give up. I just want to sleep now - it is 11+pm on my clock.

To hell with the world.

Good night.

Flipping the coin is change.

Good morning Marblehead,

Why is flipping the coin a change?

Because its flipsides are disturbed from its tossing, flicking, spinning ...? And things may become topsy-turvey, upside down, inside out, shagged ...?

And you may end up exploding (from Thesaurus - flipping = exploding, among others). And then?

Again from Thesaurus, exploding = losing your temper, seeing red, going off the deep end, blowing a fuse, going berserk, blowing up, getting mad, going wild, losing your marblehead, being angry, flying off the handle …

So you dare to - (i) anyhow flip the coin, (ii) change without deliberating, (iii) push the envelop, (iv) be a maverick, (v) be a unsung hero, (vi) be stone-headed ...?

I know you will not do (i) to (vi) ... .

Otherwise TDB will flip and explode. Yes/no?

Head, I win: tail you loose.

I am Marblehead.  Remember?

Flipping a coin is changing its position from prior to be flipped.  Now, we may end up with the same darn thing after the flip.  That happens a lot in real life.

But then, the result may differ from the pre-flip state.

Oftentimes in life we have to do something, even if it ends up not providing anything constructive.  Then we try and try again.

That wasn't a long sleep you had; only three hours.

Hi Marblehead,

I lied awake for a while trying to strategise on how to flip the coin tactically and Taoistically at this morning's meeting.

Why - strategy and tactics? At all costs - head, I win; tail they loose.

Wish me luck otherwise I will get f..ked.

But of course, I am no sitting duck. So don't muck with me. Also don't suck up to me.

Tossing a coin taoistically is simple -- attach nothing to the outcome.

Yes, you've my Wishes for the Best.

Take care of business and then goof off.  I have always applied this in my life.  Of course, now, in my old age, there is rarely any business to attend to.

Hi Brian + Marblehead,

I will just do my best and forget the rest.

Is this what you were looking for?

Hi Kar3n,

Thanks to you I have a chance to read the following:

Posted September 24, 2013

~ Welcome! ~

TheDàoBums is an open internet forum for the discussion of the internal artsOutside the boundaries of any one tradition or school, though leaning toward eastern influenced thought and practices, it is eclectic, egalitarian and lively.  Membership is free of cost (though donations are accepted).

TDBs' Cultural Context and Founding Principles

The purpose of this document is to concisely state the most fundamental framework principles that give TDBs its distinctive shape.  This is not "all the rules, permutations, etc", just the steel beams.

TDBs exists in the general field of "The Search for Truth".

The usual organized formats (schools) for The Search tend to have:

    1. focus exclusively within a school

    2. hierachical learning structure, hierachical ability to speak

TheDàoBums' founding principles form a deliberate cultural counter-point:

    1. run independently of any school, which allows a more eclectic atmosphere

    2. conversational learning, egalitarian ability for members to speak

TDBs' social format is "cafeteria", not "classroom".  It's part of TDBs' premise that, broadly in culture, these two formats are necessary, distinct yet complementary.

TheDàoBums has a strong egalitarian ethic in that its whole purpose is to provide a civil very open context for member conversations.  However, its governance structure is mostly top down; it's not a democracy.

- admins - own / run the board

- moderators - enforce rules

- members - converse  :)

TDBs' Conversational Context:

1. At TDBs member participation in conversation is non-hierarchical.  Meaning, members have equal ability to talk regardless of level of knowledge, achievement, or status / credentials of any kind.  TDBs has an underlying ethic of valuing the communication of each person.

2. TDBs most basic rules about conversation are around civility (leaving enough flexibility for lively debate).  A moderator's basic role is to moderate members' uncivility toward each other in conversation.  Members support this process by 'reporting' offending posts.

A fictional example of how 1&2 shake out:

If there's a TDBs debate about music between Mozart vs a beginning piano player, and it becomes heated enough that reports are generated for moderator consideration then, still, "level of knowledge, achievement, or status" are not basis for moderation.  Civility is, applied equally to each member.

It's up to each member, not moderators, to sort out the truth (and other questions of quality) for themselves in conversation.  Moderators just keep the conversation civil within reasonable limits.  For issues of staff bias, members can contact the current admin.

The staff (admins, moderators) also deserves and has protection against uncivility and against abuse of staff resources.  Staff protection is enforced at the discretion of the admin.  The admin also has broad discretion to protect the civility and resources of any aspect within TDBs e-community.

With thanks:  steve, cheya, OldSaint, TheWhiteRabbit, Brian, gatito, Basher, joeblast, WuDao and BaguaKicksAss (September 2013)

I am fine with the above in terms of transparency, responsibility and accountability - as a member of TDB.

The highlighted words ring louder for me, especially those highlighted thus in this order - xxxx => xxxx.

CIVILITY underlines TDB.

Thanks again Kar3n.

Good morning Kar3n,

Perhaps the above quote will be clearer if we add in this word - just - thus:

TDBs' social format is "cafeteria", not just "classroom".  It's part of TDBs' premise that, broadly in culture, these two formats are necessary, distinct yet complementary.

I have looked up a few threads from you three, and I have registered these – transparency, responsibility and accountability. In addition to a few others, you all are the reasons I choose to remain at TDB presently. Life is about free choice in relation to diversity.

Hi Steve (aka Starjumper)

You are one of the few others I have in mind.

I have followed a few of your postings and these are felt - transparency, responsibility and accountability.

Please keep up with the good stuff. They are quite new to me but I can feel you as a fruitful tree (e.g. dragon fruit).

And my guts have reacted thus - Goodness! Golly! Blimey! Gosh! Gee! Wow! Heavens! & Oh my!

You have guessed it correctly - I am spending this weekend at Thesaurus.

It is a small hill resort quite unlike your refuge in Ecuador. We have electrical energy at night and I am not freaked out in Nature's darkness..

Thank you for your 'thank this'.

Hi Kar3n,

Thank you for this in response to my 'when TDB was founded' - "Best I can tell, 2004".

My apology for wondering (blame Marblehead) and wandering off-track. Will toe back the line.

I really like that I am disciplined - despite "unlimited love". Other Bums - take note.

A great weekend.

Hi All,

Now what TDB is all about (generally and evolving) can be thought of perceptibly in relation to its foundation on page #3, what is ahead at TDB?

This question is not raised idealistically but ‘Taoistically’.

‘Taoistically’ = what?

How will answers to the above two questions lead TDB forward wuweilessly?

No right/wrong answers are expected or called.

Why? To each his/her own best free embrace of Taoism.

It's the journey that matters

Hi Marblehead,

A journey with milestones not cast in stone.

Nice to have fellow travelers and not alone.

Converse with care and share in civil tones

Yeah, our goals in life change over time.  Therefore it is not so good to set goals in stone.  But the journey, regardless of how many times we change paths, is still the journey.

And yes, it is nice having discussions where there is no reason for disagreement.  Clarification is always available though and even sometimes necessary.

I started reading (in a study) that but couldn't handle it.  Had to stop.  No favorites.

Hi Marblehead,

I am now wandering off to sleep.

It is passed 1am where I am now.

Prior to that I will have some Chinese tea and scones.

No, I didn't change direction.  It was never my direction to go.  I tried to walk that way with someone else but just couldn't.
