Yeah, that was a safe buy.

My opinion was formed on my own based on reading various translators.  That was many years ago and I wouldn't have the slightest idea who to recommend as a second preference.

How about the German original?

Actually, that would be my first preference. :P

Yeah, that was easy for you to say.

If I had the ability to read German I surely would make that recommendation to anyone who asked and could read Germany.  Seems that most Germans can read German.

It kinda comes with the territory.

Although I won't tire of reminding you that I am Swiss German.

No offence to my German friends meant, of course.

Yeah, well, a lot of Swiss people I have known claim to be French, not German.  I mean, the money is printed in French and the National language seems to be French.

In a way I can't blame them though.

How people keep correcting us when we are young!  There is always some bad habit or other they tell us we ought to get over.  Yet most bad habits are tools to help us through life.

Experience, as a desire for experience, does not come off.  We must not study ourselves while having an experience.

That was the last of my collection of Nietzsche quotes.

I will start a new thread with Albert Camus quotes.

So Nietzsche famously said that order rises from chaos or sth like that.

And he wasn't the first to suggest that order rises from chaos, but apparently he subscribed to that idea.

Ya know, chaos rises out of order as well,

it's coming.

ok, back to Camus "In the midst of chaos, I found there was, within me, an invincible calm."

We gonna need to Camus up for what's coming. Good luck to all bums who find within them something stronger, something better,,,,,

„Ich liebe die großen Verachtenden, weil sie die großen Verehrenden sind und Pfeile der Sehnsucht nach dem andern Ufer.“ —  Also sprach Zarathustra

That Book was important to me.

I would have used a translation if this was a new thread, but, as it is, that‘s the quote in my head..

on the difficulty of finding a partner:

"on the whole, I hate the limitations and obligations of the whole civilized order of things so very much that it would be difficult to find a woman free-spirited enough to follow my lead. "

dichtonomy to: (so much for only women are illogical and in constant contradiction)

"You can take my word for it, that for men like me, a marriage after the type of Goethe’s would be the best of all—that is to say, a marriage with a good housekeeper! But even this idea is repellent to me. A young and cheerful daughter to whom I would be an object of reverence would be much more to the point "

on political views:

“Socialism itself can hope to exist only for brief periods here and there, and then only through the exercise of the extremest terrorism. For this reason it is secretly preparing itself for rule through fear and is driving the word “justice” into the heads of the half-educated masses like a nail so as to rob them of their reason… and to create in them a good conscience for the evil game they are to play.”

the saddest one of all of them:
"A good wife, who is supposed to be a friend, helper, child-bearer, mother, head of the family, administrator, and who has perhaps to head her own business and office apart from the husband, cannot be concubine at the same time: it would generally mean asking too much of her." :(
