thelerner Posted December 25, 2017 (edited) As I see it, there's a spectrum here. From under accomplishing (bad) to unreal expectations(bad). Thankfully there's a large sweet spot- challenging but realistic in the middle. Good to shoot high, but not get too far into fantasy, or at least have a parachute/back up plan. To me the best 'shooting' means you've gotten some real skills that will help you in the real world- if you don't make a lofty goal. Bad aim is, if you miss, you're left in the desert with no means of making a living. The world is full of amazing one in a million success stories, that are inspiring, but we don't notice the 900 thousand + who don't make it. So its best the 900 thousand + pick up marketable skills along the way. Edited December 25, 2017 by thelerner

Just a note - we have a few more commonalities than mentioned but the general drift is fine.

Some part of yourself is going to do everything it can to prevent the fulfillment of your task. 'Some part of your yourself' . What does this mean ? It means something pretty obvious, that we rarely think about or acknowledge. The first sentence is interesting ; if it is 'one's' mind .... 'your mind' .... how does mind have an 'itself' ... as opposed to calling mind 'yourself' . If mind is not self, where does, or in what aspect does 'self' lie ? What is mind ? Partially, it is a 'complex' consisting of 'forces' , or 'drives' . To describe these energies astrologically and psychologically, we have a pretty wild self centred 'Id' and a regulating Superego - there is a basic conflict first off. Then there is the conscious / unconscious polarity. Most of the drives are unconscious , attributed to Lunar energies. Surrounding this is the basic Mars , Venus 'conflict' regulated by Mercury, through which contact with the Sun (consciousness) is made. That's general , there are further divisions that make up these 'some parts of yourself'. Drives can be stronger forces than anything in the self ; stronger than sense and reason, logic, consideration, even self preservation, family bonds, etc . Obviously, one would think they should be in harmony, and as a natural state - far from it ! It takes a LOT of work and practice ! One method is to see these forces as entities or 'servitors' and go about making 'a deal' with them to bring them into a 'good working arrangement' . IMO it matters little weather one sees them as actual outside 'real' forces or 'parts of the self', its the techniques and adjustments that are important. good servitors can run their part of the show well, with little attention from the consciousness or 'controller' . This is the aim of 'high magic' .... to get all those mischievous little scamps , working in harmony .... but they have to get some benefit .... a wise 'King' rules his kingdom wisely. Something in us is threatened by our activities and practices. Only if 'they' think the practice might be a threat to them . One needs to 'make a deal' with them so BOTH benefit , otherwise you be pushing it up hill. with a garden fork. Each person has their own way. Each way is different. The only thing which we all have in common is that we play tricks in order to force ourselves to abandon the quest. sometimes forcing them just makes it worse, they have a zillion different ways to 'trick' . And they are already deeply embedded inside us. The counter-measure is to persist in spite of all the barriers and disappointments. Well, they have to preserve their existence as well. Maybe we need to realise that 'we' are not running the show alone and develop more 'profit sharing ' initiatives.

It becomes easier if it is outside of us, a being, etc.
