Oolong Rabbit Posted January 27, 2008 I just watched this last night and I loved it. It's the first of 2 films portraying Milarepa's life (the 2nd part is due to be released in 2009 I believe). The first film focuses primarily on his early life and his studies in Tibetan sorcery. It was comparable to Travellers and Magicians, but much better. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0499238/ You can view the trailer here: http://milarepamovie.com/drupal-5.1/?q=node/12 P.S. Has anyone seen the Chinese film "Eight Immortals"? http://www.amazon.com/Eight-Immortals-Chu-...g/dp/B000MGUZBQ
三江源 Posted January 27, 2008 I cant get hold of this film, in the UK. Not yet, anyway. And several other films that members have mentioned here, I havent been able to get. Yet. But I really do appreciate it when members share recommendations like this. I think there is a 'film thread' here somewhere.... it would be good to keep a 'Film Recommendation" thread, I think. Thanks Oolong.

Thanks Oolong. Hey Cat, I actually searched for an existing topic on movies/films, but the search feature sometimes fails to bring up threads. The DVD has not been released yet, and I am almost ashamed to say I downloaded the movie off bit torrent. It was not showed in my city, and I really wanted to see it. I am definitely going to buy the Dharma Edition of the DVD when it is released though. The proceeds from it are going to charitable causes dear to the director (a Tibetan Monk himself). Film really is a great way to reach the younger generation these days. Espeically since so few of them actually read anything. I was never on the Tibetan Buddhism bandwagon (too dogmatic for my tastes), but you have to admire the progressiveness of HH the Dalai Lama. BTW... are you an artist?
