One

Hi VonKrankenhaus

Dao produces One.

Dao is One

Dao is "The Way It Goes".

One Way

The only constant, is Change.

One constant

And "the way it goes", the only  way for Nothing (WuJi - "without Polarity") to Change, is to become Something.

One Way  => O => SOmething

Some Thing Moves, or Happens, or Appears - and Movement/Stasis is a primary Polarity, or "TaiJi" - "Great Polarity".

SOmething => image.png.6daaa36c7c4c95c8366f8f5b4fc49e5f.png  +   image.png.92a4e95d34cfa790253d5c0d57779145.png  => image.png.f476247d4102761ce897e8d293fc6477.png  => image.png.01f686b60ec6bf4d2de24144cb43263f.png  =>   taijitu1.gif

That One Thing "produces" or HAS "Two" - Polarity - an Beginning/End, Up/Down, etc.

One Thing =>  image.png.42a830e5c2720d78099349218b7e2963.png  + image.png.1a6b66040226ebca827191a3f81118f3.png  => yinyang.gif

"Human" HAS male and Female, for example.

giphy.gif

These interact, as per the modern TaiJiTu and the Divisions of YinYang.

Movement between the poles of any polarity is "Qi", or "Energy".

giphy.gif  tenor.gif

Three is "Child" of Two, and also this Movement between "Two".

Heaven/Earth is also a Polarity of the (One) "Universe", and this polarity is producing "Human" or "Man".

If something isn't moving there's a good possibility that it is dead.  The difference between dynamic and static.

Something isn't moving because we are in The Void. The difference between emptiness and One?

‘The sun and the moon act as the changes,
softness and hardness mutually push each other’.

(as starjumper never said creation and the written classics is very pornographic in nature)

(My left eye is the moon my right eye is the sun)

‘Yi’s’ greatest distinguishing feature is its transformations. Like with the sun and the moon, in the daytime the sun shines, and in the evening, the moon rises. Yang changes into Yin, Yin changes into Yang. The ‘Yi’ also follows this pattern with the Tai Chi diagram’s Yang unbroken lines “—” and Yin broken lines “–” , that is, Tai Chi gives birth to the two polarities of Yin and Yang. The two polarities give birth to the four divisions, the four divisions give birth to the eight trigrams, going one step further after the arrangement and composing of the eight trigrams the 64 hexagrams are generated.

“The ‘Tai Ji Diagram is precisely the ‘Boundless Infinite Diagram’.
The ‘Boundless Infinite’ is exactly Yin embracing Yang,
Yang embracing Yin,
Yin and Yang not yet being separated,
the time of heaven and earth not yet having taken shape.”

Not yet visible Chi
Eventually a Yin egg is formed inside the female ovaries via sublimating over a long time. The mature Yin egg begins to seek a Yang sperm, from the ovaries it advances and enters the Child’s Palace, namely the womb. In the matured males testicles, a Yang sperm forms also through a long period of sublimation. Through the male and female love-making, the Yin egg and the Yang sperm converge in the female womb.
If one regards the womb analogy as the Tai Chi diagram’s outer ring, then the Yin egg and the Yang sperm are exactly resembling the Yin and Yang fish inside the Tai Chi diagram. The Yin egg and the Yang sperm will eventually mutually attract each other to one place. This stage is the ‘Not yet visible Chi’ phase, impossible to perceive or sense.

I am never in the void.

Well, wait a minute ...

I was in the void before I was born and I will once again be in the void after I die.

Other than that, I have never been in the void.

When discussing the changes at the conceptual level of polarities, divisions, trigrams and hexagrams everything makes perfect sense. However, when the conversation goes physical, specifically into bodily fluids, eggs, wombs, testicles, sperm etc. it begins to feel kinda like that scene in Phantom Menace when George Lucas introduced Midichlorians. We're taking what is universal and coercing it into something sexual. I admit, this is one of the aspects of Taoism that has never clicked with me.

Just now, Marblehead said:

Of course, but I imagine the universe could flow along quite nicely without any living creatures. There would still be change.

Hi Dada-da,

Sex is the creative life force of living and is a sublimation of a certain consciousness.

I am comfortable with words like sperm and testicles - they are just words.

But after having said that I am now uneasy because of this from dawei:

"Squares and corners spoken are not the eternalness [of squares and corners]".

When "sperm and testicles spoken are not the eternalness [sperm and testicles]" - I am uneasy as an ALPHA male cub.

.

I fear for my manhood as - (a) I don't want to be sterile/infertile and (b) it is never my ambition to be an eunuch.

To set Yinny's mind at rest - henceforth I will refer to the unmentionable as sEEd and passion fruits respectively.

- LimA

P/S  For your information - Yinny wants to refer to her eggs as jelly beans. I asked her - why? She replied - "they are sweet and colorful".

Hi Wu Ming Jen,

For the posterity of eternalness, can I make subtle changes to the above thus...?

Eventually a Yin jelly bean is formed inside the female ovaries via sublimating over a long time. The mature Yin jelly bean begins to seek a Yang sEEd, from the ovaries it advances and enters the Child’s Palace, namely the womb. That is very noble and I admire this yet the non sexual metaphor is very real, tangible and can not be changed. The flow of one thing to another I call principle  a unifying force, meaning what works it is not a mental construct.

Here we go...... the internal alchemy is based on physical aspects of the body so the same way yin and yang can give virgin birth inside us the metaphor applies non physical...... how weird is that.

‘The initial Qi’:
Once the Yin egg and the Yang sperm happen to collide, they mutually join together, just as the two Yin-Yang fish do inside the Tai Ji diagram, and new transformative combinations begin to grow.

‘The commencement of form’:
Once tiny life is formed in the womb, it undergoes chemical changes initiated by the mother’s Yin and Yang, as well as by its own Yin and Yang. Therefore it continues to absorb nutrients, and gradually grows into an “infant”.

‘The formation of matter’:
Even though it is gradually and slowly taking shape, there are also sudden bursts. ‘Ten months of pregnancy, every childbirth exactly will rest on quantitative changes causing qualitative changes.”

There were no Chinese characters at the era of Fu Xi , the eight drawn images compare well with the characterless heavenly book. Lao Zi in the 《Dao De Jing》 draws up a figurative metaphor:

“The Dao gives birth to One,
One gives birth to Two,
Two gives birth to Three,
Three gives birth to the ten thousand things.”

The Three giving birth to the ten thousand things denotes comprehensively the ten thousand forms, namely every phenomenon in this world. Fu Xi drew only eight images, and no further. Each trigram being divisible into three levels. Fu Xi realized that eight images already reached integral completion and were able to thoroughly encompass the ten thousand matters, the ten thousand things, the ten thousand phenomena within this universe.

Since the ‘Yi’ reflects the changes of the sun and the moon, the transformations of the universe, and the shifts in the human world, its transformations are limitless and infinite.
It contains ‘the Simplistic’, ‘the Changing’, and ‘the Unchanging’: three types of conditions.

One day me and Marblehead decided to go to town. When Marblehead saw a woman and asked what is that I sarcastically replied that it is a tiger and they are dangerous. After climbing the mountain back to the cave I asked Marblehead what did you like most about going to town. Marblehead replied the tiger. (not to mention she had a white top swim suit with lots of movement contrasted with stillness. (you know the light and dark having sex giving birth to the ten thousand things.)

Thank you for posting this.

Regarding the one yielding two, and two yielding three, and three the ten thousand: The above seems to explain this in the context of living creatures, but there are more than living creatures in the universe (unless we say "all things are alive", but that's a different conversation). I've always taken the one, two, three, ten thousand in the context of all physical, not simply living physical. My view may be outside of normative Taoism, but I eschew labels and may not actually be a Taoist in the strictest sense.
