How to translate or define "The Dao Bums" ?

Recommended Posts

I am wondering how to translate "The Dao Bums" into Chinese, so I could introduce our forum to some of my net-friends in this forum, http://www.xiulian.cn/Discuz/forum.php.

The hard part is the word "Bums".  I found this statement in a few dictionaries,

bum:"A person who devotes a great deal of time to a specified activity".  Does this definition sound good for most people?

If translated to Chinese, it would be, 迷  or 粉.

迷:  enthusiasts

粉:  fans

Any suggestions or opinions would be appreciated.

does have a nice ring to it. I like how it still carries an air of confusion about it, like to be so absorbed in something as to be "lost." Also evokes a bunch of nutty sports fans. Homer Simpson voice: "hmmm, dao nuts."

for the sake of argument, some alternatives for "bum":

流浪 (liúlàng) wander, hobo - I like how it's made out of the words for flow and wave...

流氓 (liúmáng) rogue, hooligan.

To build on what @Taoist Texts said, here's a favorite thread from the site history:

Thanks for the URL, so I was able to read a little about the history of our forum. :D

For me, these words come with negative information:

流浪 - people might do it as a life style

遊民 - homeless, or after a nature disaster people keep moving from one place to another

流氓 - rogue, could be related to a gang
