TheHermit Posted October 28, 2018 Hi all, This looked like a really useful board to join as I’m trying to learn zhan zhuang and qigong and wanted to ask some questions about them (mainly Zhan Zhuang). I’m from Scotland, but live in Bangkok, and can’t find any qigong teachers here, so I am trying to learn on my own. A few people have pointed me towards videos and books, e.g., Lam Kam Chuen’s books and videos for Zhan Zhuang, and others have told me NOT to learn on my own as it can cause problems, so I’d like to dig a bit deeper on those issues because without a teacher, my only option is self-learning at the moment. Thanks Hermit
Fa Xin Posted October 29, 2018 Hello, The Hermit, and welcome. Your membership is approved and we're happy you found your way to us. We look forward to accompanying you on some of the way that you still have to go. Please take the time to read the post pinned at the top of this Welcome page and take a look at the forum Terms and Rules. This covers all you need to know when getting started. For the first week you will be restricted to ten posts per day but after that you can post as much as you like. Also, until you’ve posted fifteen times in the forums, you’ll be a “Junior Bum” with somewhat restricted access and will be allowed only two private messages per day. Good luck in your pursuits and best wishes to you, Fa Xin and the TDB team Hi Hermit, Welcome. ZZ is OK to try on your own, your body will correct itself if you stand for long enough. Just make sure to do your research, practice. There’s a few people on here who do great ZZ logs. Enjoy! You are welcome to jump right in to the ongoing discussions, revive an older thread, start a new thread of your own, or start a discussion in the "Newcomer Corner" sub-forum to expand on your introduction or ask general questions to help you get started. May you enjoy your time here. Fa Xin
Miffymog Posted October 29, 2018 Hi Hermit, I've been teaching myself ZZ for the last 3 years and I'm quite happy with my progress. I've got a personal practice log below with a lot of my experiences. My best advice is to keep the practice short so your motivation stays high. In time, the duration will naturally increase in its own way. Good luck 1
