Fa Xin Posted November 26, 2018 Anyone have any recommendations? I enjoy listening to the music from various traditions... from Bhajans and Kirtan to Gregorian Chants and Gyuto Monks. Great to listen to while I study or relax. Curiously, I don't have any traditional Chinese music in my playlist...
Geof Nanto Posted November 26, 2018 I too would like to find some Daoist inspired music. The closest I've found to the sound I'd like is Riley Lee playing the shakuhachi flute: 2
LightShadowDao18 Posted November 27, 2018 Master Zhongxian Wu records some daoist inspired music. Its pretty good for practice. One album is available on spotify.
silent thunder Posted November 27, 2018 The Guqin has always epitomized daoist music for me.

Fa Xin Posted November 27, 2018 (edited) I found this one, which is quite awesome! The compiled songs have credit in the info, but most of the names are in Chinese. Video is a bit misleading, as the music has nothing to do with Thailand or Buddhism... Edited November 27, 2018 by Fa Xin

OldDog Posted November 28, 2018 I would suggest looking into classical Guqin music, especially as a solo instument. Classical Guqin compositions make a lot of use of empty space (pauses, rests, timing) with a lot of contrast with sound. There is quite a lot out there. Great for when you are trying to concentrate but would like a little background sound.

Geof Nanto Posted December 1, 2018 I bought this album: "The Pure Sound of Mountain and Water". Here's a track from it..... And what I like about Riley Lee's playing of the shakuhachi.
doc benway Posted December 2, 2018 I highly recommend the album Si Ji (Four Seasons) played by Xuefei Yang. It includes some traditional and some contemporary pieces for classical guitar. My favorite tracks are the traditional Yi Dance; Si Ji, written by French guitarist Thierry Rougier; and a series of pieces inspired by consulting the I Ching by Italian guitarist Carlo Domeniconi.

Love the mix of traditional Chinese with the contemporary acoustic guitar. Nice blend
Gerard Posted December 9, 2018 Renaissance music came close to perfection. Very high level Hun. And when played in those Gothic cathedrals, oh boy! Orlande de Lassus - Psalmi poenitentialis (featuring soprano Regina Kabis who is a specialist in Medieval music) Palestrina - Missarum Liber Primus Gregorio Allegri - Miserere mei Deus (Allegri was a composer at the start of the Baroque period though) Sufi: Sain Zahoor Ahmed - Bulleh Shah's song Mohsen Taherzadeh - Angel dance I really like this short Daf solo by the Iranian artist Shekofeh Modern Medieval Folk Yasmeen Amina Olya - The Isle and the Inlet Song, The Field Song Traditional Chinese: Bei Bei Guzheng - The Butterfly Lovers Fusion: Dhafer Youssef is quite good - Soupir Eternel Enjoy! 1
