Vajra Fist Posted January 13, 2021 Ever since I was a kid watching Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, I've always loved the jian. This year's New Year's resolution was to dedicate a bit of time every day to learning this. I already had a telescopic training sword, but a couple of weeks ago I ordered the Flying Phoenix, a beautiful Han replica jian from LK Chen. It's due to arrive Monday and I couldn't be more excited. So with this in mind, I'm curious to hear from those who train jian regularly. What has it added to your taiji practice? What resources (books, courses or dvds) do you recommend for learning from or gaining a deeper understanding of the role of the sword in internal arts

The primary benefit for me was to highlight and cultivate the connection between the legs, kua, waist and hands. Lots of other benefits but of lesser significance for me. 1 hour ago, Vajra Fist said: What resources (books, courses or dvds) do you recommend for learning from or gaining a deeper understanding of the role of the sword in internal arts Can't help there as I haven't used any books or other media in my training. I will say that once you've mastered the basics and some form training, practicing drills and 2 person sets with a partner is extremely valuable. 2

If I´m understanding @Taomeow ´s astrological take on the new year correctly, this should be an especially auspicious year for sword training. 2
doc benway Posted January 13, 2021 I have a Qianlong style jian made by Huanuo. The balance is good but it's quite heavy and takes some getting used to. I mostly train with a wooden jian now.
