A masturbation habit for optimal health

Hi,

i struggle from time to time with porn and excess masturbation, over the years i've come to realize the craving is almost silent when im mindful of loving-kindness and self compassion.

However, when trying to cultivate and not masturbating to store energy i still feel like my body isnt ready for storing that intense energy for long stretches of time. I still need to practice grounding and train the parasympathetic nervous system to counterbalance it.

 

i intend on making it a mindful practice without porn or any "technological aid".

 

So with that said, what would be a healthy frequency for a self love practice in relation to Daoism and qigong?

Listen to your own body

If you don't have health issues and you're in your 20s, once a day or less.

Find better hobbies and make some more friends. Masturbation isn't self-improvement contrary to what Tyler Durden says.

 Have tried  for years but id rather focus on not using visual aid and once i can stop THAT habit then ill try stopping completely.

An old yiddish proverb: we plan, God laughs.  My variation: we plan, our bodies laugh.  Historically, I've often attempted top-down control of physiological processes, not always with great success.  My cerebral cortex imagines himself the head honcho in charge only to be taken out by supposedly lower aspects of my being -- hormones, stomach, sore feet.  Whatcha gonna do?  When regulatory mechanisms go out of whack and we become addicted (to porn or food or a closet full of shoes) it's natural and good to try to set limits.  And yet the end of addiction is not marked by white-knuckled adherence to any given program or schedule; the end of addiction is marked by a sense of ease.

I never said it was your only one or that it is a hobby. Re-read what I said to say "go find better hobbies" because the implication is you don't have enough going on and as a result you end up flogging the dolphin.

 

But because you're not interested in reading carefully or clarifying, you're on your own, which I think is what you want anyway.

Sexuality and sexual energy seems to be quite important from what I have heard from seemingly quite knowledgeable people. And it can be made into a practice that gives you benefit, contrary to what other people here seem to think.

 

Even if you don't have a partner, to suppress it is to suppress a very important part of yourself.

 

This is what I have heard of it, but I don't know the details of the sexual practices. Although I believe there where also some solo practices.

Seems to me like you have the right idea. Carry on, experiment (also with frequency), and perhaps you will discover something interesting. No?

I don't fully understand the modern male issues around masturbation and porn. 

 

What's wrong with it? It strikes me as a sort of post-Christian guilt. Whereas before we feared that god would punish us (every sperm is sacred). Now we fear that we're somehow depleting our manliness. 

 

Something about the repressiveness of the so-called 'nofap' movement feels very off to me. It seems like at the extreme end of it are the incels and the far right. It's like living in such a repressive way they've developed unconsciously  aggressive or backward views toward women.

 

Honestly, if you feel like you want to get your rocks off, just do it. It's healthy, not only emotionally but also apparently for other parts of the body like the prostate. 

 

Of course anything that becomes addictive or threatens to take over your life, is also not healthy. In the same way as alcoholism or emotional eating. In those cases there can be deep-rooted psychological or hormonal issues at play that a medical specialist or counsellor can help you with. 

 

Meditation can help with that too, in perhaps draining away the emotional charge behind your thoughts, and teaching you kindness toward yourself. In either case, the answer shouldn't be repression.

 

In other words, don't go to any extremes. Take it lightly. When the cup is full it naturally spills over. 

 

Edit: just a note too on the purported 'masculising' effects of nofap - if your body isn't developing enough testosterone, you are most probably hypogonadal. No matter how much semen you retain, it probably won't make much of a difference. Go and get checked by an endocrinologist and get yourself treated. Testosterone deficiency is often a precursor to type two diabetes and heart disease.

1. Ba Gua (IMA). It brings balance to a heavily imbalanced system. Welcome to planet Earth young grasshopper. 

2. Diet. No eating after midday. It takes time to build your system to reach tíos level.

3. Open the entire pelvic area. Grounding work like Asian squat.

4. Still meditation work during the Urinary Bladder meridian times (3-6pm) to help cooling off the Heart (root of all desire).

5. Ground sexual energy rising during GB & Liver meridian times (11pm to 7am). This is a challenge for most people.

6. Serious fasting periods. Try see what works for you best.

7. Move a lot once retention builds up nicely. Walking for many kms per day is s good method.

Since jing , it gets both invisible and visible forms ( semen) , is the basic  life force ,  people can manipulate  it  only if  they can  change its form to qi,  or even to shen , at their own will .  If only for health consideration , then the less frequent a release of jing ( having sex with a woman is only one of the ways) , the better it is . It also depends on what age the guy is , for example , in his 50s , once fortnightly ; in his 60s, once   a month..etc.

 

Both Taoist and Buddhist teachings emphasize the importance of no leakage of jing . The Taoist ideas , especially those of the Wu-Liu school,  are  explicit and clear. It says  that jing is not only related to health , but to both physical and spiritual immortality . As a Toaist patriarch said :

 

" After having told about the key ( of forever keeping jing  ) , I am assured of the immortality of this body "   ('得訣歸來, 則知此身可以不死' )

 

Why so sure ? Simply because a  long-term accumulation   , say a duration of 3 months ,  of jing  is a thing extremely difficult  ; without  sifu's  key , hardly can people themselves  get the way out .  And ,  only a period of 3- 4 months  retain of  jing can give people a strong   feeling of  being very energetic ,  even some self-healing ability..etc

People aren't supposed to abstain from sex or ejaculation... its one of the most basic natural instincts that will always be there.  Don't even think that "masters" and "monks" outgrow the need based on their level of "development".... history is full of stories of all religious people who actually become sexual deviants, rapists, and all the rest of the bad stuff...   all because they like you - erroneously believe they understand enough about their biology to control it willingly or they have some other stupid viewpoint inconsistent with the truth..  They don't.  Very few people ever have or ever will.  Denying yourself what you feel is stupid.  However, there does need to be a balance between urges and what is sensible...  thats all on you. 

 

If you actually wanted to know what the esoteric possibilities are with sexual energy - you could learn about it, but its pretty doubtful anyone will ever be able to talk to you about it based on their experience, unless they are very highly enlightened people.  

 

Learning basic self control of yourself is different.... thats pretty simple.  Don't overdo it.  

 

Biologically speaking - a human male is recommended to ejaculate once every 3 or 4 days to clear their prostate to avoid issues that could lead to prostate problems...  Of course, as you age your libido will decrease.  Duh, old people are dying faster than young people - they're not supposed to make people anymore because they can't support them like they need.

 

Good luck on not giving yourself hemorrhoids!  Hahahahahahahaha.

 True. thats the issue with NoFap exactly.

i realized this from expercience as well. 

I asked whats the healthy frequency for that reason. so then i could learn to not overdo it. 

which is hard, i hate to admit.

Once a day is excessively done it will cause a biological imbalance. It is because your body needs at least 2 to 3 days to rejuvenate for sperm to mature. Twice a week is normal but I still wouldn't recommend it for a normal person. Unless the individual practices Taiji or Qigong daily to speed up the rejuvenating process.
