Cobie Posted November 26, 2023 (edited) @Taoist Texts Almost all DDJ translations use the Wang Bi characters (e.g. ctext.org, James Legge), and Wang B was a Confucian. Do you think the Guodian was also written by a Confucian? Edited November 26, 2023 by Cobie

Taoist Texts Posted November 26, 2023 (edited) 3 hours ago, Cobie said: @Taoist Texts Almost all DDJ translations use the Wang Bi characters (e.g. ctext.org, James Legge), and Wang B was a Confucian. Do you think the Guodian was also written by a Confucian? great question. Quote the Chu slips are dated to around 300 BC. Kong Fuzi (Chinese: 孔夫子), more usually Kongzi (孔子; lit. 'Master Kǒng', c. 551 – c. 479 BCE), 150 years is not enough time for the Confucianism to spread all over china so whoever copied this text was not a Confucian in a sense of a formal offical scholar. However, Guodian was composed by "Lao-zi" whose student Confucius himself was. So in that sense yes Guodian is a Confucian text because Confucianism is "Laoism". Or conversely Lao-zi was the first Confucian before Confucius . You get my drift? Edited November 26, 2023 by Taoist Texts 1 1
