What would happen if people collectivley decided that money/currency has no value in itself, and abanded it?

Ah, is this hypothetical an apocalyptic scenario? I had assumed you just meant a sort of re-imagining of society as if we all just decided to not use money. If money lost all value out of disaster, then everything would be in shambles regardless.
