No matter what happens politically, we all have the right to affirm to ourselves what we find to be true. I know my gender and nobody can take that knowledge away from me. Reality is reality. Trump doesn´t have the power to change reality no matter what. One can extrapolate and see that the US is headed towards a radical right-wing, white nationalist, and megalomaniac dictatorship... btw, remember all the fairly well established people in Russia that suddenly fell out of windows to their death when affirming their rights or are suspects, in North Korea they are lined up and obliterated with anti-aircraft guns... (and trump says he loves Kim or that Putin is a strong leader while putting down our own American intelligence agencies) In America lots of decent citizens get death threats some of which have been carried out (or attempted) when speaking against trump and his goons. The good old days of rationally agreeing to disagree and or compromise are few and far between and going away by day or even by the hour! Denying women reproductive healthcare is getting on "well" I won't be long and the measures taken against trans people will get worse and he will go for gay people too. You just wait a bit. Maddie Posted February 14 (edited) I have a friend that is a human rights attorney and every day she fights for the rights of migrants and other people whose human rights are being violated by the government. Yesterday I asked her why there's so much transphobia even amongst other members of the lgbtq community and everyone else. I found her answer very enlightening. She said because of misogyny, sexism, and patriarchy. She explained that this is why even though we've even had a black man as a president we still haven't had a woman as a president and why Black and Hispanic men still voted for Trump. At the end of the day even though this is a very racist country it's an even more sexist country. Even came in are still men and are not above being sexist and misogynist. She also said that the most misogynistic and sexist are usually the ones to cry the loudest that it doesn't exist and that they are not. She went on to explain that to a misogynist and a sexist and a someone who's bought into the patriarchy there is absolutely nothing worse than anyone could do than for a man to (in their minds) willingly want to be a woman because that's the lowest of the low. Even women who have bought into the patriarchy or transphobic for the same reason. I found this to be very enlightening in a sad way. I realized that in spite of all the excuses and the denial the reason that Trump won is definitely not because he's qualified but because he's male first and white second. Because we still live in a very sexist and a racist country. I've always been a rather tactful person but when I'm watching my country and my democracy literally die in front of my eyes the time for tact is over. Resist, resist, resist! You can look into actual examples. Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and Taiwan; all of them are much more conservative than USA, especially some of them. They all had or having female prime ministers and presidents with real power. This list doesn't include ceremonial president like Singapore. These happened in the last 50 years. Their culture remain as they are in spite of the female heads of states. Politics is far more complicated than gender. Forgot Korea and even Hong Kong has a female Chief Executive.
