Its like doing something without doing something That sounds like you got the western idea about Laozte's Philosophy of Wu Wei. Accomplished something by doing nothing. Back to Fajin, the basic idea is 听勁,Ting Jin(listening to Jin). I need to apply it here to listen to what you are saying. You had said that "easier said than done." My interpretation is that you have not done push-hand before but just talking about it. Well in push-hand may be done solo. One still can listen to one's own Jin. To begin with, one's muscles must be relaxed or 松(song). At the condition of song, there is no Jin in the muscles. As soon Fajin was executed, one will sense the tension of Jin in the muscles by Ting Jin. By Fajin, here, means a little force was exerted by the arm muscles. Thrice Daily Posted September 27 I have practiced with people yes. And Chi Sau also as it is done with Wing Chun, when it is very relaxed this can be a little like push hands. The key thing I remember about push hands with a partner, it was not about winning or losing, but it was very much about maintaining attention . Attending to grounding and balance sure. it is almost like there is some mystery at play who will lose the balance first, but with a great sense of fun and fair play it can get very interesting but much like tennis or or racquet sorts with two players if they go for the smash shot every time, it’s not so much fun for anyone

This is, also, where to apply "using 4 ounce to sway one thousand pounds, 四兩撥千斤. Edited October 9 by ChiDragon
Thrice Daily Posted September 27 Hmm yes, quite... Do like the way you use Chinese Characters in your posts by the way. Do you speak Mandarin, I guess you know Traditional Chinese and not just Simplified. Is that right?

The reason I used them in my posts was to be sure that is what I am talking about. Edited September 27 by ChiDragon
Thrice Daily Posted September 28 It’s good I like it. When I have time I’d like to do a little study. It’s a fascinating way for written language to develop, through ideographs. Awesome additional meaning otherwise lost to mundane fast and modern communication.

ChiDragon Posted October 30 (edited) 2 hours ago, qin00b said: Any resources to review to learn this? Push-hand is a high level skill in Taiji. In order to learn push-hand, it requires many years of practice of the basic movements to condition the body to fajing(發勁). The jing(勁) needs to be built up in the body for this level of training. Normally, to experience it, one needs to learn it from a teacher. It is hard to describe it in words. One cannot find a good source online for solo training. What I did was practice with a light weight elongated punching bag with a spring attached at the bottom and stand on the floor with a heavy base. I touch it with my hand and push back and forth with circular motion. I stand on a bow stance and move my waist accordingly. It exercise the whole body. If you like, I could make video and post it here. Edited October 30 by ChiDragon

I can visualize something that sounds right - I used to do something similar with a heavy bag while learning kickboxing. If you could make a video, I'd greatly appreciate it.
