dun hou shi- squatting monkey and lower dan tien

Recommended Posts

hello everyone,
I start working on squatting monkey. I currently stand for 8 minutes a day, aiming to gradually reach 15 minutes a day.
I wanted to ask how long it would take for me to feel energy sufficiently accumulated in the Lower Dan Tian in a rough estimate.

Is it weeks? months? years?
I had not regularly practiced Qigong before.
In addition, I would love advice on how to successfully focus on the lower dan tian during standing, do you use imagination or just pure awareness of the area?

thanks!

I can only answer for me personally in standing. I focus on legs on in breath , on out breath and gentle reverse breathing lower abdomen relaxes. Easier to feel sensations and rest attention there. Then back to the feet and legs. Hope that helps, I think it is an old idea, it works well…

Do you screw legs into the ground and work with slight tensing of muscles in legs and bum, contracting and relaxing , or?

This practice seems to me is an one man style. Nowadays, everyone comes up with new ideas. It looks it is a good exercise for the legs. However, it seems to put too much stress on the spinal cord is because of the awkward position it is in. I wouldn't continuous with this practice if I were you. I would recommend the traditional Zhang Zhuang stance.

Focus(意守) means just pure awareness. It is a concentration in one area of the body. It is the area where you want to apply power to. In the squatting monkey, it seems that all the concentration was occupied on the up and down movement. Thus less focus was on the dantian.

I don't contract and relax the muscles, but the standing itself stresses the inner thigh muscles. Thanks for the advice!

At the moment I am not working on the movements, but on static standing. I thought that after I gain experience in static standing and the chi becomes stronger, I will start working with the breaths and movements in a full way.
I'm starting to feel warm during the practice, and I have a desire to practice it and I guess it helps persistence so I'd rather stick with it for now.
