not for the people

Quote

the primary activity of Zhengyi Taoists was to sell protective talismans. Local cults developed around the sale of these talismans,

just in business for themselves.  not cool.

Quote

After the death of the 64th Celestial Master Zhang Yuanxian in 2008, controversy arose over the legitimate succession, with different descendants claiming to be the rightful 65th Celestial Master, including Zhang Jintao and three other claimants in China mainland; and Zhang Yijiang and Zhang Meiliang in Taiwan. Another Taiwanese master, Zhang Daochen, claims to be the legitimate 64th Celestial Master, as, according to him, Zhang Yuanxian wasn't.

not cool at all

He was not the founder of any school directly, but his disciple, Wang Chongyang, is considered the founder of Quanzhen.  Wang Chongyang had seven disciples, later known as the Seven Masters of Quanzhen, who are credited with founding different branches of the school.

Yes, Quanzhen, 全真(All True) is a Taoist religion group founded by Wang Chongyang, 王重阳, who advocates the Xing() and Ming()dual cultivation.

Yeah, I have that one. Now that you mention it I do remember that. I was mostly making a joke about the picture(obviously from some film I've seen-it looks familiar).

It's a really nice book. Are you practicing neigong?

Not really. What do you think they were practicing in Eva Wong's book? Sounds like the way to go.

In other news: I've practiced Hung Gar and Western Renaissance weapons for many years.

Well, what, exactly, do you think the Qanzhen people were trying to do?

Hung Gar is one of the Five Family Shaolin derived styles of martial arts. Some people call it Tiger-Crane style. My teacher was Michael Dillard, his, Cheung Shiu Pui, his, Ho Lap Tin, his, Dang Fong, his, Wong Fei-hung(whom you may know of).

Zhengyi, really like this Character, old school, into the Immortality and Herbs but also got his head screwed on.

Ge Hong, I don't know much about him and his works yet but he has popped up quite a bit so far and he seems like a pretty good Taoist role model.
