Hi so a quick background on me, I have been practicing Baguazhang and Xingyiquan for 1.5 years about now. About 1 year in I started focusing on Zhan Zhuang since I noticed I was lacking the power my teacher had, because he only focused on mostly forms and applications.

I started out doing 30 minutes of standing in 8 different postures via my Yiquan teacher and then eventually progressed to 1 hour in 1 posture which then progressed to 2 hours in the standing posture. I, then started experiencing Zi Fa Gong the problem is since then it's been an ongoing issue and seems to be evolving too different states it helps my kung fu and does help me become healthier. However I feel like there's a road block in my body, another bit of background information about me is that I have pelvic floor syndrome a disease where my pelvic floor accidentally locked itself up and won't release.

Whenever I stand now and even outside of standing, I can initiate the spontaneous movement by opening something in the back of my nostrils ( it feels like the holes that open up inside your mouth to allow air to come in. My spine would physically move and I would feel a wave traveling down my spine and into my feet.

This wave if allowed to travel would loosen my body and muscles, I also noticed if I did anything wrong in my martial arts form or circle walking practice I noticed it would create more severe blockages than it would possibly in a regular person. I would have to fix it via zhan zhuang.

I also noticed that my shoulders are one of the area this wave is trying to release as it's chronically tight due to me having crowded teeth and my tongue being unable to relax fully to support my head.

My questions are :

A.) Does anyone have any idea of what's going on inside my body? Is the Qi trapped due to my structural annomalies?

B.) Is this due to my pelvic floor syndrome or my jaw structure?

C.) If it's due to my jaw structure in some way would I need to fix this via surgery to continue? Thank you.

PS : I have also went to see a Chinese Medical Doctor who specialized in Qi healing and he said that there was a nerve block in my pelvic area which is likely causing the spontaneous movements but his advice to focus on the dantian while standing just worsened the issue.

In my opinion you should just let it happen. In my experience the healthier you are, the less spontaneous movements you have. Your TCM doctor gave good advice to focus on the lower dantien.

You can try this healing qigong that I do, it can be done standing, sitting or lying down. It does create some spontaneous movements but is more controlled than other systems:

Just ignore the part about the ginger

I do allow the Zi Fa Gong to happen! I am just wondering if I am hitting a ceiling or my body needs to change in some way in order to progress further? I don't think it's anything unique and allow it to happen on it's own, but it seems like there's areas where the tension won't release due to structural issues.

No, if it’s still happening, there is still work to be done. Just carry on as normal

Okay thank you, I really appreciate that!

I also wanted to ask you since you were kind enough to come help me up, when I circle walk I notice that I get a blockage in  my stomach and the more I advance in my zhan zhuang it seems the more the blockages are created by the Circle walking do you have any advice for me? Thank you.

Ah I can’t help you there as I don’t do any circle walking unfortunately. Hopefully someone else has some good advice for you

May I ask what your teachers have said about it?

My current teacher isn't too much into the strange phenomenas, he's more practical and is just a practice until you get it type of guy. He was accommodating and just let me do whatever postures were comfortable, but now I notice I cannot do CIRCLE WALKING at all without creating blockages where as before, this seemed to happen around the same time I started being able to let my breath travel down to my feet.

That’s not a good sign, you ideally need a teacher who knows exactly what the strange phenomenon is

To be honest most of the teachers I've met even if they were TCM weren't really knowledgeable of what's going on, the TCM doctor I met seems to know the issue but when I focused my attention to the dantian it just caused more pressure to build up. I am working on PT and fixing my pelvic floor issues to see if it helped.

Zi Fa Gong itself seems to help heal my body but Circle walking, seems to be causing alot of pressure inside.

Maybe give up the circle walking if it’s not doing you any good. Is it part of your baguazhang or xingyiquan training or something extra?

Yeah circle walking is a huge part of Baguazhang, it's essentially zhan zhuang but just moving it's supposed to be a safe practice. I do zhan zhuang just fine.

Yes this is true, I've seen some teachers saying this exact same thing, which is very interesting because I look way younger than my age and I always tought I was very healthy, then when I started qigong, EVERY different type of qigong I try I have lots of spontaneous movements, even when I do Zhan Zhuang I have them, so this got me thinking that physical appearence is not necessarily related to your health, maybe it's more genetics.

I always considered those people who look younger to be healthy but maybe they(and I) have lots of energy blockages. Maybe I'm not as healthy as I thought😁

When did your Zi Fa Gong stop?

I'm still having it when I practice.

It can go for months, depends on how much work needs to be done

The movements change every time so I think it's a good sign that I'm not stuck on a particular blockage, because some people can get stuck in this process, or even worse, do it wrong and have zi fa gong when they are not doing qigong

I am actually experiencing a minor form of Zi Fa Gong when not actively practicing qigong. I wonder what I did wrong, all I did was stand.

Sorry,  I don't know how to fix this issue.

Try watching Damo Mitchell podcasts on youtube about Zi Fa Gong, maybe he can help you, he talks a lot about this process and in his book "A Comprehensive Guide to Daoist NeiGong" he explains the process of Zi Fa Gong in detail but I don't remember if he gives a solution to qi deviations.

I've also created some blockages in the past and I came here asking for help, the advice was to stop every qigong practice an do some grounding, like working with the earth (this is the best if you can) and physical exercises.

I read that if it's not that severe the blockages can fix themselves if you do what I said above. But I'm sure there are more people who can help you with this subject, I'm also here to learn😁

Hi, sorry to hear that your had such a problem. It sounds like you have a spinal nervous problem. Did you go get some CT scan or something.  You should have western medical attention with this serious physical problem. I don't think you would find the solution here. Please don't delay any longer for medical help. Your pelvic floor locked up might become permanent, then, it is too late.

So, GO GO GO see a western doctor!

Yes actually and they said my Pelvic floor only had some mild tightness, my issue came from severe constipation and having to repeatedly strain :(

I am currently under going physical therapy for it, as for my spine specifically they didn't say there was anything of note and I recently had an X-RAY taken so if there's any problems it should pop up there.

Okay, your problem seems to be right there. Are you sure that is not what caused your constipation? Instead of the other way around?

No because even before when I was relatively unhealthy and had alot of tension I can go to the bathroom, my pelvic floor locked up one day because I over-indulged in salt cleanse, then I started having a hard time emptying my bowel normally. However I do agree with you currently the tightness is aggravating my issue since they seem to come up whenever I do circle walking.

Thank you for any further input you'd have!

That is the sight of not to do any more strenuous exercises until you get this issue resolved. It will make it worse for sure. Just move around slowly without getting any pain to prevent the pelvic locked up becomes permanent!

Good luck to you!

Do you have any idea, what the issue is? Is it QI getting stuck in one place? Everything is find with zhan zhuang and zi fa gong but not Circle walking?
