@liminal_luke,

I smell something good coming from the general direction of @ChiDragon's domain....

I don´t read Chinese and am not motivated enough at the moment to use Google translate.  Is ChiDragon cooking up a shrimp stir fry with noodles and lots of garlic and ginger?  Now that just might transcend transcendence!

Inspector Foote?  What is difficult about this?

Easy, easy—on the tips of the hundred grasses

What's easy about this?

I'm confused.

Usually when I relate this story to people, most of them prefer Lingzhao’s remark for saving energy, and dislike what Old Man Pang and Old Lady Pang said about difficult and easy.

I relate to the lack of relating to Layman Pang and his wife.   No joke.

Good ones.  Are you asking me?

All of that is perfectly Kosher on the nose.  Smells delicious.

Transcending transcendence for me is to go beyond the conceptual, to go beyond metaphors, descriptions, even God.

Not recalling the past or planning the future, not changing anything at all in this present moment is the view, the meditation, and the conduct. The immediacy and vividness of this very moment is authentic, unfabricated, and unbounded, full of potential; and yet nothing can be said about it that does not try to define or reduce it to something our conceptual mind can grasp. However we try to describe it is not it, that's why it is often described as unimputable.

The only way to do it justice is .... shhhh.... leave everything be just as it is and simply be just as you are.

Nothing can be added or taken away from this present moment.

May I ask a clarifying question?

Spoiler

How is that different than transcendence?

@Maddie,

Please, why should I define this word for you?  That doesn't feel right to me.  You get to choose what the word means to you.  That's why it's your answer.

For those that don't know what the word means, using context, is best.  That way the individual is choosing what is significant to them.  They are choosing their words, their definitions.  Otherwise I'm telling them, and everyone else who reads this thread that they MUST adopt MY definition.   I don't like that idea.

Furthermore, in my experience, those who belly-ache over definitions rarely have good intentions regarding communicating with me.

I want to, but, I don't know how without influencing the answers in a negative way.

tran·scend·ence

/tran(t)ˈsendəns/

noun

existence or experience beyond the normal or physical level.

"the possibility of spiritual transcendence in the modern world"

tran·scend

/tran(t)ˈsend/

verb

gerund or present participle: transcending

be or go beyond the range or limits of (something abstract, typically a conceptual field or division).

"this was an issue transcending the tech space and reaching other corners of society"

one is a verb, the other is a noun, but it's the same word. Therefore it's really meaningless.

Learned might be an exaggeration. Read, perhaps?  If you had learned it you wouldn't feel the need to extend your sympathy to me.

I do HOPE you learn it. _/\_

@stirling doesn´t have my sympathy.  He may have "nowhere to go, nothing to do" but I don´t think he´s sitting around on a Saturday night drinking too much red wine and watching reruns of The Price is Right.

Sometimes I do that, but rarely on a Saturday, and I'm generally out with friends. No "Price is Right", though... recently it's been "What We Do in the Shadows".

Let me help you,

A gateless-gate:  do it, or not.  It's open.  There's no gate.  The door is off the hinges.
